Dewey: A Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World

Dewey is a story of love, courage and devotion. The library cat of Spencer reminds me of another orange four-year-old male cat called Rascal, who learned how to jump on a door handle to open the door and whose captivating adventure stories described in the series Why Some Cats are Rascals, Book 3 educate children about American geography and history, zoology, survival skills, and such positive values as friendship, loyalty, love, and trust. Like Rascal, Dewey is charming, lovely, and moving. If you are cat lover, you may not miss any of these books. Dewey and Rascal are like brothers to me.

A dear friend who is a fabulous knitter sent me a copy of this book, hoping to "hook" me on her favorite hobby (next to reading, that is). I glanced through it and found it to be as promised: a complete guide for a "dummy" like me!

But you "can't teach an old dog new tricks" and since knitting isn't high on my list of priorities, I'm going to pass Knitting for Dummies on to daughter Debbie who does show some interest in learning this skill ... AFTER I send my friend a copy of Crocheting For Dummies, of course. (Snicker!) I won a few blue ribbons for my crochet work "back in the day," so I think everyone should be proficient at crocheting. Yeah...right!

Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog

I must say taking care of impulsive dogs like Marley demands patience and hard work. So I can appreciate the Grogan's dedicated care of this hyperactive dog, Marley, who had the typical traits of ADHD. Of course, dealing with ADHD people is so hard. When it comes to dogs with ADHD, that's even more difficult. He wasn't able to do as the owner told him to, made a lot of mischief, and so on - nothing was so annoying as these for most of dog owners. I might have flown off the handle if I had found his frequent misbehaviors. - "Next time you do this, you are going to the slaughterhouse! Get it?" I just wonder whether it meant animal abuse...

While the first part is rather slow, it has plenty of horrific moments and the haunting quality of a "world that has moved on."
