In his notebooks, Richter himself tells repeatedly how strongly he disliked this performance of the Brahms Second. Most significantly, he blames Leinsdorf for pushing the tempo all the time. For the rest we have to guess for what his motives could be. After all, it is quite strange that the pianist in what is perhaps the best-loved of all Brahms B flat's doesn't like it himself. What could Richter have had in mind? Perhaps he had even greater ideas for this piece - but as it is here, I cannot possibly imagine. Richter gives probably the pianistically most perfect rendition of the concerto ever made, coupled with a musical insight that most of his colleagues could hardly dream of. And considering Leinsdorf: his accompaniment is very correct and ... Read More:

Quite simply astounding even with the playing errors. Although contrary to some reviews here I have sat through the 3rd movement and heard nothing sounding like bloopers in particular. But in the finale at the very very last note there is a horn that comes in about a split second after making it sound like DA- da. Could someone possibly tell me if they are planning to write a review on this, what time of the 3rd movement is there a horn error? (like 17:32- the time)

Excellent music - Zamfir is the king of the pan flute. Unfortunately the quality of this CD is very very poor - too bad because the performance is exquisite.

Of the three recordings I know of the Levin completion of Mozart's Requiem (the others being MacKerras and Pearlman) this particular one has to be the most convincing to me.
It is understated but still appropriately weighty. A live recording commemorating the World Trade Center/Pentagon disaster of September 11th, 2001, Labadie's rendition really does pack an emotional punch than most recordings currently on market.
Unlike the Pearlman recording, this present one is done on modern instruments although the dynamic featured Violons du Roy play in period style-- crisp, pure, without vibrato. It really makes this one unique. For example, listen to the fugue, "Quam olim Abrahe" as the violins place that stacatto on the first and third beats ... Read More:

Electra Nonsuch, a division of Warner Communications, released a CD several years ago of such power, reverence and intensity that it deserves a second look in 2004. The CD, Henryk Górecki's Symphony No. 3 in three parts is consistent in its elegance and somber tone throughout. Composed in 1976 in the small town of Katowice, the Symphony take us through the account of what occurred in another small town outside Katowice, named OSwiecim, better known to the world as Auschwitz. As the name would suggest, the Symphony evokes images of long human suffering, endurance and ultimately salvation from the human condition of a Nazi concentration camp. Nothing cheery here. But there is something uplifting, too; from the moment the first movement begins: "Lento - Sostenuto Tranquillo ... Read More:
