Okay, I've been meaning to deal with my feelings about this DVD release for some time now. Here goes...

It would have been nice if other reviewers had remembered that they were rating this DVD release, not the TV show itself. As such, HBO has received ratings for this DVD release that are ridiculously high and quite simply not justified. Congratulations on telling HBO that their viewers are suckers who will pay anything for their favourite shows in any substandard format.

The video quality is so grainy and poor that it looks like it was downloaded from the Internet (at a low resolution). This makes me pause to wonder what the show would actually look like downloaded from the Internet - TV static, perhaps? - but ... Read More:

Can't claim to have seen this in the cinema, nor even that I would have wasted my good money to go see it. BUT, this film grew on me year after year. Many local channels keep putting it on the air over and over again, and I have come to realize that I'm completely hooked. It has everything to do with its Saturday matinee style: you can watch this, have fun and turn off the brain and the stress for a couple of hours. Jack Burton is hilariously over the top, but is a really decent guy ready for anything (he "was born ready"). Gracie Law is a smart and funny and vulnerable lawyer who is out to defend human rights and dignity. Rudyard Kiplings spoke out regarding the need for all young men to sign up, his own son Jack could barely see without glasses. It was through father's bullheaded intervention that Jack went to war. "Did I murder my own son?" he comes to ask himself. You will find yourself asking the same question and will find it surprising difficult to answer. Radcliffe here leaves Harry Potter far behind. He is becoming an actor with surprising depth and subtlety - expect big things from him in the future if this outing is anything to go by.

A nice film at a nice price, but, for those who care, the box is labelled: formatted from its original version to fit your screen (an amazingly presumptious statement in an era of widescreen video systems). The DVD is 4:3. If this really is a pan & scan reformatting, then shame on Lion's Gate (which has a good reputation) for acceding to it. And if it was originally 4:3, why include the reformatting statement? I wish Amazon would be a little more assiduous in providing this kind of info (aspect ratio, case, cast) for pre-ordering; it used to be.

for me,this movie was just bland.not really boring,but not really
interesting either though i will admit,they did put a unique spin on
things.mostly though,it just plods along to the end.i also thought most
of the characters were not interesting.in fact,some of them were
unlikable.there are some good actors in this movie,but they seem to
sleep walk through it for the most part.once in awhile there is a bit
of overacting,at least in my mind.a little levity(humour)would have
made the movie better.it's just takes the subject matter too
seriously,in my mind.basically,i was disappointed in this movie.i had
higher expectations.not the worst movie movie ever made,just sort of

First there was TV's Barney Miller,then the short-lived Police Squad,and now the first of seven POLICE ACADEMY films. Steve Guttenberg,who appeared in DINER two years before this film,is Carey Mahoney,a parking lot attendant who is arrested following termination from his job. At the police station where he's booked he meets Larvell Jones(Michael Winslow) who himself has been arrested for disturbing the peace. Winslow is famous for vocal impersonations of objects in action. So Carey and Larvell join the Metropolitan Police Academy as an alternative to jail. All 3 films in this collection have poor
picture quality, it looks like the studio copy them from
televison the picture quality is that bad i have seen
movies on vhs tapes which have better picture quality than
these 3 films.

The only reason to maybe buy this is because Porky's Reverage
isn't available on dvd, but only if you can find it this collection cheap.
