Eureka: Season Two

Apparently the little genius town of Eureka hasn't quite run out of disasters yet, even with the destruction of the Artifact.

In fact, Eureka's problems get worse as the show's writing becomes better, starting with the citizens bursting into flame. The second season of "Eureka" is more confident and well-balanced than the previous one, and it takes the characters, quirky humor and tight writing into brand-new territory. Including Carter walking around naked.

The timeline has been restored, and Carter (Colin Ferguson) and Henry (Joe Morton) are trying to adjust to their past lives. Carter also is convinced that the future will unfold just as it did in the other timeline.

Across the Universe is a musical directed by Julie Taymor (Titus, Frida). The film incorporates over 30 songs from The Beatles into it's story and is loaded with endless references to other Beatles' songs and associated lore. As a tribute the film is outstanding. As a film it is as visually beautiful as any movie released in 2007 and is definitely worth owning on blu-ray if you are a Beatles fan or, at the very least, you're familiar enough with their catalogue that the many references to their music are not over your head. The other big bonus in Across the Universe is its young cast. The film includes great performances from Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood especially. I did not know that Wood could sing and evidently she can.

Good news: this title is being rereleased in September 2008! A truly apt title indeed.

We'll finally be be able to fill that annoying hole in the Fox Film Noir series on our shelves.

As I recall this is a very good title, in the upper-tier of films noirs, but not quite into the top-tier (like Woman in the Window, Double Indemnity or Night and the City). It's been quite some time since I saw it (on TvO Saturday Night I seem to dimly recall or perhaps PBS), but my usually reliable memory indicates this should be a most enjoyable re-viewing.

The last crop of Fox Film Noir was not the most substantial of the series (Black Widow is somewhat entertaining a times, but not really noir and rather slight). The 3 titles ... Read More:

Shiva Rea: Yoga Shakti

I had gotten a beginners yoga dvd a few years ago and from that dvd (that you had to use blocks etc), I was completely turned off yoga thinking it wasnt for me and decided to switch to Tai Chi. Looking for a more advanced tai chi dvd, I saw this dvd and something about the cover and reviews made me want to try it again. And now I LOVE yoga! I like how she makes it like aerobics/dancing and I dont need blocks or even a mat (I just do it on my hardwood floor). The scenery is beautiful with the sea and there are so many exercises, hours and hours of stuff on this dvd and not just a couple routines like my first yoga dvd and even the tai chi one. I highly recommend it!
