O.K. Its' Jan 16, 2006 and I just got home from the latest stage show of JCSS with original Jesus, Ted Neely. I believe he's 62 or so and though I was a little taken aback when he first came on stage I was very impressed with his voice. I was a big fan of the "original cast" production album back when I was in my teens with Deep Purple's Ian Gillan doing a great job as Jesus. I never really watched the movie nor listened to the soundtrack version -I only wanted the original. Well I can say that it was a great show and now I will have to buy this album as well.
To top it off Judas was played by "In Living Color's" Cory Glover and he was simply outstanding.

What were you thinking? I'll admit the 1998 remake was entertaining, the way "Wings" is at one o'clock in the morning when nothing else is on, but, like "The Nutty Professor" Murphy's kid-friendly remake looks like a crime against cinema when placed next to its source material. First off, this is a musical with a beautiful score by Leslie Bricusse (who wrote the songs for "Willy Wonka" and "Stop the World, I Want To Get Off" with longtime partner Anthony Newley, who stars in this film). Also, Rex Harrison WORKED to learn to talk to animals. It wasn't a magical power he was born with, the man studied! He doesn't need cheesy (if well-cast) celebrity voiceovers and computer-generated mouth-movement to convince ... Read More:

I was in college when this movie came out and I missed it back then. I didn't think it was going to be any good.
I ended up buying it, as I'm collecting every movie that's ever been nominated or has won an Oscar, that's available on DVD. I was reluctant to purchase this one, but the price was excellent, and grabbed it.
What made this movie such a treat is the quality of the photography by William Fraker, the musical numbers, especially "Hard Candy Christmas" (fabulous!)and "I'll Always Love You" (which I cannot understand why it wasn't nominated for an Oscar as best song, since Dolly Parton wrote it, to my knowledge, for this film and it is great!); the dancing, superb; the whole tongue-in-cheek approach (albeit ... This is a fractured fairy tale done right. The lives of fairy tale inhabitants intertwine, mesh and often collide with humorous, uplifting and heart-wrenchingly sad results. Bernadette Peters steals the show utterly and completely, of course, but the remainder of the cast deftly work their magic too. Highly recommended, with different story points appealing to different age groups. Just utterly magnificent.

I have a growing musical DVD collection, and this is by far the finest. The sound quality, camera work and variety of music is amazing. Since purchasing this DVD, it has seldom left my DVD player. I already have ordered the 2007 concert, and can't wait.

A very long time ago...about 5 years, I noticed Cats was going to be on a TV channel. I was busy the time it was on so I taped it. Unfortunetly, I set the wrong time on the VCR so it cut out at the end of "Mr.Mistoffelees". I loved what I saw of the show, and was very disapointed that I didn't know how it ended. A couple months later I found the DVD. I immediatly bought it. (Earlier that month I had bought a DVD player) I loved the ending, as well as the rest of the show. My favorite songs are Mungojerrie & Rumpleteazer, Memory (of course) and Macavity: The Mystery Cat. However all the songs are fantastic. I watch the movie all the time. I just recently saw Cats in the theatre to. Which was even better. In the DVD you get great close up shots of the characters costumes and ... Read More:
