I watched this movie last night, by chance, having never heard of it before, and the one thing that really captivated me was the music. It's beautiful. Not too polished, but full of heart. I immediately went online to see if there was a soundtrack. I can't wait to go buy the cd! I recommend this to anyone who enjoys beautiful, moving music...

There are some magnificent, some great and some merely competent interpretations of Leonard Cohen's music on this soundtrack album. First the highlights. Tower Of Song by Martha Wainwright with its intricate guitars is a powerful interpretation of the classic. The lilting and sensual Tonight Will Be Fine by Teddy Thompsom is magnificent - his voice sounds similar to that of Springsteen.
Then comes the tremulous and atmospheric Winter Lady by Kate & Anna McGarrigle and Martha Wainwright, a true gem. Beth Orton does a splendid version of Sisters Of Mercy with her slow and emphatic enunciation supported by lovely backing vocals. Perla Batalla's Bird On A Wire and The Traitor by Martha Wainwright with its opening trumpets ... Read More:

The movie actors sing the songs and really put there own flavour to the Beatles words and music. The movie is great and so is the soundtrack. I love the deluxe version as it gives you 29 songs. If you are tired of the original Beatles versions this CD will add new life back into the many great songs they produced - enjoy.

I'm a huge Bob Dylan fan so knew that he'd be giving artists covering his tunes a lot to work with. While I didn't know a lot of the artists, I anxiously awaited this album which seemed to take forever to arrive. All I can say is wow, wow, wow. There are a couple of tunes I probably won't burn to my IPOD, but overall this is a terrific album. I loved All Along the Watchtower (and I have about 4 or 5 covers of this), Man in the Long Black Coat, Senor, and Ring Them Bells. Highway 61 Revisited (Karen O and the Million Dollar Bashers) made me get up and dance; it goes to my "favourites" list. This is an album that is going to get a lot of play for me. I can't wait for the movie.

I picked up this CD shortly after its release, and it's been a constant in my CD player ever since. I'm a fan of the Broadway show, so I was a little unsure of how I'd feel about this, but I was pleasantly surprised. There's a lot of wonderful talent singing their hearts out for this soundtrack, and some nice little surprises thrown in.
Individual song reviews:
Good Morning, Baltimore: A wonderful way to open the CD and introduce the world to Nikki Blonsky's larger-than-life voice. This song is a lot of fun, with a great beat, and wonderful vocals - 9/10
Nicest Kids In Town - Probably one of the bigger surprises here, since I had no idea James Marsden (aka Cyclops from X-Men) could sing this well. He has a rich tone and introduces ... Read More:
