I have just about everything Emmylou has ever done and it's all great. She has always had the best musicians, production and of course her beautiful voice which has aged like a priceless wine. Emmylou can do no wrong, ever the consummate professional.

You would think that Duffy is one of those artists spawned from Amy Winehouse's transatlantic success, however Duffy, now 23, grew up in remote north Wales, listening to her mother's modest record collection and building up a small following of fans when, at 19, she was discovered by "60Ft Dolls" Richard Parfitt, who brought her to the attention of Jeanette Lee (once of PiL) at Rough Trade, she in turn hooked her up with Bernard Butler (Suede), Steve Booker and Jimmy Hogarth, who 'helped' write this album, so, in a every sense her debut album, "Rockferry", has been more than three years in the making.

I don't think that I can be terribly articulate about this or explain the reasons this album resonated with me so strongly. I think it is just the sheer quality of the material and mastery of the artist.

I apologize in advance if the vagueness of this review is not terribly helpful. But, I must say that as a musicholic, it is very rare for me to react in so strongly a fashion upon first listen. I encourage you to listen to the bits and pieces you can find online to see for yourself. The hooks, vocals, tunes and melodies have totally grabbed me. I can't remember the last time that I felt that I was hearing something brilliant after listening one time. I'm on my second listen right now and it not only holds up, I'm increasingly impressed by what ... Read More:

This disc is an entertaining romp with the Barenaked Ladies. My 11 month old listens quite intently and especially likes 789. My husband and I also find ourselves singing along. I would like to commend the group for their quality lyrics, music and Canadian Pride!

The Reminder

this cd's on a lot at work, and i have to say that it isn't that bad to listen to. if left to my own devices, i would probably only listen to one or two songs of my own volition, but the cd in itself has a nice easy flow to it. some songs can be rather melancholy if you're in the appropriate mood, but on the whole i'd say it's a light-hearted, easy-going album. at the very least worth a listening to, even in passing.
