I wasn't expecting much from this release from HMS, but I really must say it is a great, great album!!. The production is excelent and the songs are really good. Makes me remember their first two cds.

Bryan Adams' third compilation (after 1993's So Far So Good and 1999's The Best Of Me) finally gives the man a proper retrospective. Wisely skipping his early dance hit "Let Me Take You Dancing", the collection kicks off with "Remember" from his first album and builds momentum from there. Most of BA's major hits are accounted for, although surprisingly there are still some hits missing ("Do I Have To Say The Words", "Kids Wanna Rock", "Best Is Yet To Come", etc.) and some are in alternate versions ("When You're Gone" is redone with Pamela Anderson instead of Mel C, "I'm Ready" is the 1997 Unplugged version, "18 'Til I Die" is a 2005 live version). BA's early albums aren't given as much representation as they should, but the hard-core fans will ... Read More:

This cd is a beautiful result of living in Spain and creating! it is simply a gorgeous cd, speaks to me of far away culture and romance!
It is a favourite in my collection and whenever I play it for friends, they always ask...who is this?

This disc is quite a change from Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà previous album, the smooth and soothing Un Conte De Fees/Fairy Tale.
While exploring a whole new world with Glass Music, she reminds us of some of the incredible music he composed and she reminds us of some good films (Mishima, La Belle & La Bête). Captivating, never boring, with this Portrait, she made a moving disc.

Like Colin James, I'm a musician living in Vancouver, and his sometime bassist Doug Elliott also plays with my band, but that's not why I recommend this album. "Christmas" is the latest in a long series of Little Big Band projects stretching back to 1992, and Colin has a deft way with the jump-blues guitar-horns-organ format, which he revived long before Brian Setzer.
What that means is this album, though it contains both traditional chestnuts ("I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Let It Snow," "Baybe It's Cold Outside") and some swingin' alternatives ("Cool Yule," "Boogie Woogie Santa Claus," the gospel-style "Go Where I Send Thee"), is remarkably refreshing in the sea of sappy-sweet versions you hear this time of year. Colin swings and shimmies ... Read More:

For people who love Feist, I apoligize. I simply do not think her music lives up to the hype. All her songs seem to teeter on the edge of profound, only to crash back into 'forgettable'. Listening to her music, I am struck by the idea that she dislikes what she does, which is frankly, a little depressing.

I bought this CD solely based on the fact that I love the cello. I do not pretend to know classical music - I buy what I like to hear, and this CD exceeded my expectations. It is such a pleasure to listen to this disk; it is soothing and every track is worth it!

CBC radio is airing a new program on Sunday Nights called Revolutions Per Minute, cleverly doing profiles of a number of influential Canadian albums that basically were revolutionary in thier time. The first show was last night October 19,2008 and they did "Music from Big Pink"
Ashamedly I don't have a copy of this album and don't think I've heard it from beginning to end ever. I was amazed at the songs on it and the whole story of how The Band came to make it and how it influenced so many other greats of the day, such as Eric Clapton, etc.
One thing I learned was "The Long Black Veil" was the only song on Big Pink not written by them. I thought the man in black, Johnny Cash, wrote it. Wrong. it's an old American ... Read More:
