This is a party in a box, brash, exuberant, tender, brooding, with ragged guitars, visceral percussion, cool lyrics and piercing vocals which assume every posture in the manual of rock. I loved this cd. I love the Raconteurs.

Singable Songs For The Very Young

Singable Songs for the Very Young was originally released in 1976. I was born two years after that, and this album (cassette tape actually) was a staple in my family. I can remember my younger sisters and I belting out "Must be Santa" or "Mr Sun." in the back of the car on long trips.

We also had the record for "Corner Grocery Store" and I can clearly remember dancing around the living room and singing along with my sisters to the silly songs on that album.

Wanting to share these songs with my own children, I got Singable Songs for my two year old son. As it turns out, he loves the songs too and we have a lot of fun together singing and dancing. His favourite song is "Bumping Up and Down in my Little Red Wagon."

Sleep Through The Static

Jack Johnson's at it again with his fifth album, Sleep Through the Static. For any Jack Johnson fan this is a must have as Jack continues to come through with laid-back, feel-good songs. I would say, however, for anyone looking for their first Jack Johnson CD, that this is not the one to start off with. While it is a good album, some of his earlier albums, namely In Between Dreams and Curious George are better in my opinion.

There's no denying that Kathryn Dawn Lang is one of this country's most unique artists. From her early days fronting a Patsy Cline tribute band, to making a big splash into the music biz pool in 1984 with her cowboy boots, old time granny specs, cowboy shirt and hoop skirt. Well-deserved critical acclaim and commercial success soon followed as she continued to set a higher standard with each album released. Her duet with Roy Orbison on "Crying" was magical and her 1982 hit "Constant Craving" was as near to musical perfection as a song could ever be. Coldplay's "A Rush of Blood to the Head" is a rare thing in today's music. It is an album that people will remember, 20, 50, 100 years from now as a classic album. 'Rush of Blood' has it all; catchy choruses, beautiful lyrics, awesome guitar, sad songs, happy love songs, a mix of folk, rock, new age and even punk. It can please just about any music fan with its ecclectic nature. Chris Martin has a soulful, gorgeous falsetto and when he rocks out and lets loose, there is nothing like it. I would recommend 'Rush of Blood' to anyone and everyone. It's sheer genius.

Country music purists usually like to have a go at Carrie Underwood. She's unfairly dismissed because of her introduction to the music scene via American Idol, or in regard of the fact that her music is a crossover form of country music. Needless to say that her new album, "Carnival Ride", will probably not change the minds of naysayers; as for the millions of people who bought her debut album, they will be more than satisfied with this catchy and attractive sophomore album. The spectacular success of her debut (the best-selling album from any American Idol contestant, and the one who won the most Grammys, CMAs and American Music Awards) will be hard to beat, but this one just might do the trick.

Despite all the negative media attention Amy Winehouse has, she is a relevant and important voice in music. She has got talent to spare and her debut is in many ways even better than her sophomore album Back to Black. I love both albums, but there is something about Frank that has me hitting the play button more often than with her follow-up.
