Eye of the Needle

starring: Donald Sutherland, Stephen MacKenna, Philip Martin Brown, Kate Nelligan, Christopher Cazenove
directed by: Richard Marquand

July 08, 1997
Early 1980's hit has apparently disappeared. Sutherland plays a World war 2 German spy who comes upon the landing plans for D-Day, As "the eye", all he need do is to be picked up by a German u- boat. Sutherland speaks perfect English and German, and has left a bloody trail around Britain for 4 plus years. Now, he's at it again, commiting 2 more murders, repeatedly seducing a vulnerable woman, all in the name of relaying war instructions from Storm Island to Germany. The finale is unforgettable, a stark movie ending in a fitting fashion. Well cast backup players, most unknown in the USA, play their roles expertly, and Sutherland is Sutherland, the viewer either appreciates his work or doesn't. The background musis, when used at all, is apt, and ... Read More:

directed by: Richard Marquand

I just saw this movie for the first time about six weeks ago. I have now seen it four times. I love this movie! It has now become one of my top 10 favorite movies of all-time!Please MGM release it on DVD. I have e-mailed them and asked for them to do this. I hope some other people will do the same. This is a beautiful love story, that is well acted, and which features a beautiful musical theme, as well as beautiful scenery. The two stars have a great chemistry together. What more can i say about this film. I liked everything in this film.

The Lady and the Highwayman

starring: Emma Samms, Oliver Reed, Claire Bloom, Christopher Cazenove, Lysette Anthony
directed by: John Hough

...Alas, the print quality is terribly bad. It looks like it was made from a video tape that's been copied over and over and over - dark, fuzzy, flattened colors. So, I couldn't even appreciate the lovely costumes and settings.

The story is so badly predictable and corny, the dialog is stilted, and the editing is terribly choppy. It's silly. It's boring. Not even a terrific cast (Hugh Grant, Oliver Reed, Michael York to name a few) could lift this one out of the doldrums.

Pass on this one.

Three Men/a Little Lady

starring: Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, Ted Danson, Nancy Travis, Robin Weisman
directed by: Emile Ardolino

June 16, 1998
In November 1987,Tom Selleck,Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson began to delight audiences with their #1 blockbuster "Three Men And A Baby". Three years later, the sequel "Three Men And A Little Lady" was released. It didn't score as high as the first film at the box office. Robin Weisman is the 5-year-old little lady Mary in this film. The six-month-old baby in the first film was played by twins Lisa and Michelle Blair. The three men of course, are Peter Mitchell(Selleck),Michael Kellam(Guttenberg) and Jack Holden(Danson). Peter,Michael,Jack,Mary and Mary's mother Sylvia(Nancy Travis) are all living together now. Peter,Michael and Sylvia in one scene are at a meeting with the principal of an elementary school that Mary has been enrolled in. Jack,an actor ... Read More:

Aces: Iron Eagle III

starring: Louis Gossett Jr., Rachel McLish, Paul Freeman, Horst Buchholz, Christopher Cazenove
directed by: John Glen (II)

Where to begin, when I saw this movie for the first time I just feel in love with Chappy. I have yet to see a movie that even comes close to the quality that this movie embodies. If Chappy were a real person I would marry him and have a life of action and romance in his jet, going really fast all over the world and blowing stuff up. I am not sure if Chappy should be hanging out with little boy though, that could be bad. You know what they say "16 will get you 20". You just have to watch this film, you too will be swept away by the passion that Chappy exudes. If I had a chance to save my daddy from the bad guys I would want Chappy by my side, if not sitting on his lap in the cockpit of his jet.

Zulu Dawn

starring: Burt Lancaster, Simon Ward, Denholm Elliott, Peter Vaughan, James Faulkner
directed by: Douglas Hickox

Although the motives behind the British invasion of Zululand is a painted little thin in the movie, I thoroughly enjoyed this production. The story depicts arrogance, followed by the gallantry and hopelessless of the British troops, as they are overwhelmed by the brave Zulu warriors protecting their homeland. Peter O'Toole is suberb as General Lord Chelmsford, who is depicted as responsible for the debacle. There are also beautiful vistas of Natal, South Afica. The only shortcoming ... I wished the story had continued with more details on the aftermath and effects of the defeat. The end of the battle is the end of the movie!

The Duchess of Duke Street

Produced and co-written by John Hawkesworth (best known for his role as producer and co-writer of Upstairs Downstairs), The Duchess of Duke Street tells the story of Louisa Leyton Trotter, a young Cockney woman from a working-class background with aspirations of becoming the finest cook in London. The series open in 1900, with Louisa landing a job as a cooking assistant to one of London's finest chefs. It's the chance of a lifetime for her, but her outspokenness threatens to be her downfall.

Nevertheless, she indeed rises to become a first-rate and much-sought-after cook and the proprietor of London's exclusive and very expensive Bentinck Hotel on Duke Street. Louisa owes much to Bertie, the Prince of Wales, with whom she has a brief affair. ... Read More:
