Childrens Toyshop VHS : Key Largo

Key Largo

starring: Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall, Lionel Barrymore, Claire Trevor
directed by: John Huston

February 11, 1997
Aaaahhh ... Bogey. AFI's No. 1 film star of the 20th century. Hollywood's original noir anti-hero, epitome of the handsome, cynical and oh-so lonesome wolf; looking unbeatably cool in his fedora, a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth. Endowed with a legendary aura several times larger than his real life stature, and still admired by scores of women wishing they had been born 50+ years earlier, preferably somewhere in California and to parents connected with the movie business, so as to have at least a marginal chance of meeting him.

"Key Largo" (1948), directed by John Huston, is the last of four movies starring Bogart and real-life spouse Lauren Bacall (after their legendary collaborations in, first and foremost, "To ... Read More:

Dead End

starring: Sylvia Sidney, Joel McCrea, Humphrey Bogart, Wendy Barrie, Claire Trevor
directed by: William Wyler

July 05, 2000
Nominated for four academy awards(winning none)this picture adapted from the Broadway play of the same name by Lillian Hellman literally grabs you by the collar and pulls you into its' world almost from the opening scene.
And this film is about TWO worlds, the rich who have built and occupied an apartment building right beside the East river and the slums who are right beside and below it.
And these are indeed seedy, crammed and bug infested slums. There are very few warts not shown.
The film opens as a garbage scow(a "gar-barge" in the vernacular) tows its' goodies on down the river and the residents brings theirs out to be picked up.The film revolves around the future Bowery Boys straight from the Broadway play to the screen. They hang ... Read More:

Dark Command

starring: Claire Trevor, John Wayne, Walter Pidgeon, Roy Rogers, George 'Gabby' Hayes
directed by: Raoul Walsh

May 21, 2002
This Civil War era movie was very interesting as it tried to follow a generalized campaign of the very infamous Captain Quantrell, the Confederate leader of raiding party's into the North. This was not one of John Wayne's best pictures but it ranks up there as being rare and informative. A must see for true John Wayne fans.

Konga

starring: Michael Gough, Margo Johns, Jess Conrad, Claire Gordon, Austin Trevor
directed by: John Lemont

September 05, 2000
I found "Konga" to be an enjoyable horror film. Michael Gough does a good job as the ruthless, conniving scientist. He's really outrageous. "Konga" probably did not have a large budget, hence the simple special effects. But in a strange way, they add to the charm of the picture. A nice little gem of a movie. Somewhat hammy, but fun.

Mountain, the

starring: Spencer Tracy, Robert Wagner, Claire Trevor, William Demarest, Barbara Darrow
directed by: Edward Dmytryk

June 11, 1996
If you enjoy action movies that slowly build to an exciting climax you will enjoy this one. Spencer Tracy as the older brother was a bit old to play the older brother to Robert Wagner but I guess they felt the younger brother needed to be much younger and irresponsible. As for Tracy's feat of strength, people in stressful situations get the adrenaline flowing and can do some incredible things. You have to be strong to endure that type of climbing. This movie takes place on a mountain where the two brothers go to see if there are survivors to a plane crash. Tracy's intentions are pure of heart while Wagner's are of looting. The turmoil between the two and the treacherous mountain terrain make it a movie that will draw you into this well made drama.

ONE OF THE BEST WESTERNS OF OUR TIME, KIRK DOUGLAS REALLY SHOWS HIS ACTING RAGE HERE. ALOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT THIS FILM BECAUSE IT DEALS WITH ISSUIES LIKE WHAT IT REALLY TAKES TO BE A MAN, OR GUN OR TWO FISTS. FRIENDSHIP, RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A MAN A WOMAN. DRIFTER WHY HE DRIFTS TOWN TO TOWN. AND LAST HONOR. I WISH HOLLYWOOD WOULD WAKE AND SMELL THE COFFEE AND PROCLAIM THIS FILM OF ONE OF THE FINEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!

How to Murder Your Wife

starring: Jack Lemmon, Virna Lisi, Eddie Mayehoff, Claire Trevor, Terry-Thomas
directed by: Richard Quine

September 01, 1998
In our PC society, I can still look back and grin affecionately, considering that this film was made at a time when "battle-of-the-sexes" humor was at a peak (Doris Day, anyone?) Lemmon's a natural, and Terry-Thomas actually steals the film for that reason. Fairly formulaic, the men are made to look more idiotic than the women, though if anyone wants to take issue, check out Claire Trevor's manipulative harpee witch. Virna Lisi is, indeed, stunningly gorgeous, and very endearing. This is a "nice" movie; not a great one, nor one that lives on in history. It has Lemmon, Terry-Thomas, Lisi, Trevor, Eddie Mayehoff (a riot), and should be taken for exactly what it is: a fun, mindless romp that entertains. Lighten up. I still think this should've been nominated for Sound Effects...I ... Read More:
