Childrens Toyshop VHS : Missing

Missing

starring: Jack Lemmon, Sissy Spacek, Melanie Mayron, John Shea, Charles Cioffi
directed by: Costa-Gavras

February 06, 2001
Seeing this movie gives you a pretty good heads-up on what went on in Chile under Pinochet. Unfortunately, so many today who think of it as left-wing propaganda are the brain-washed ones. The U.S. government was involved in so many coups in developing countries and countries that were kept at a developing level intentionally. To say that this film is propaganda insults all of those who died anonymously during that horrible regime and many more like it.
A definite must-see.

Good Neighbor Sam

starring: Jack Lemmon, Romy Schneider, Dorothy Provine, Mike Connors, Edward Andrews
directed by: David Swift (II)

This is a simple comedy about marriage and work in the 60's. A wonderful movie up there with the rest of Jack Lemmons'other great comedies. A DVD version is needed! When???

Glengarry Glen Ross

starring: Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris
directed by: James Foley

With the exeption of the swearing I thought the plot was excellent. I was glad to see Kevin Spacey and Jack Lemmon in scenes together. I liked the plot twists with Jack Lemmon being a suspect. Al Pacino was excellent, must see movie..

Tuesdays with Morrie

starring: Jack Lemmon, Hank Azaria, Wendy Moniz, Caroline Aaron, Bonnie Bartlett
directed by: Mick Jackson (II)

March 13, 2001
Morrie was mentally strong, though he suffered from the terminal disease, ALS(=amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), I'd say. He was eager to tell the meaning of life to his ex-student, Mitch Albom, who is also the author of Tuesday's With Morrie. I would only worry about my terminal disease,if I were in Morrie's shoes. I mean, all I could do would be to be apathetic or pessimistic about my future. " The truth is once you learn how to die, you learn how to live." - that'd be the last thing I could say.
Certainly, it WAS sad that Morrie passed away because he was respected by lots of his students and graduates. However, every Tuesday when Morrie told Mitch the meaning of life must be very precious memories for Mitch.

12 Angry Men

starring: Courtney B. Vance, Ossie Davis, George C. Scott, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Dorian Harewood
directed by: William Friedkin

November 07, 2000
I really don't think a masterpiece like 12 ANGRY MEN needs a remake. This remake of the classic 1957 film makes many good efforts, but falls short in many points. First of all, I think Scott is excellent, and could stand serious comparison with Cobb in the original. (Alright, maybe his final monologue isn't quite as cyclonic as Cobb's, but perhaps Scott was wise in not trying to emulate that.) Many of the other actors are also very good. But some of the actors miss the mark on their characterizations. Olmos' watchmaker is a confused mess. (Who is he? Where is he from? What is his social class?) Gandolfini's Juror # 6 is surly and disagreeable, unlike Edward Binns' kindly original. The actor playing Juror # 5 is too confident and bold; in the original, this character was ... Read More:

Buddy Buddy

starring: Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Paula Prentiss, Klaus Kinski, Dana Elcar
directed by: Billy Wilder

June 22, 1994
Walter Matthau as a resourceful mob hit-man who is hounded by a suicidal Jack Lemmon who is desperate to win back his sex-cult-obcessed wife. Their paths cross constantly, culminating in the final scene's extremely far-fetched reunion.

Billy Wilder's final film as director shows the master pushing the envelope, including gratuitous foul language and brief nudity, along with matter-of-fact handling of murder, vandalism and ridiculing the effectiveness of law enforcement. The scene where a hotel maid ignores the plight of a bound and gagged Lemmon is painful to watch. The woman "chats" with the victim without once considering that he needs help, bidding him good day as she eventually exits. This could be seen as an insult to Hispanic Americans, portraying the maid ... Read More:

China Syndrome

starring: Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, Michael Douglas, Scott Brady, James Hampton
directed by: James Bridges

May 11, 1999
This movie came out a year before the incident at Three Mile Island but it is freakishly alike.

A news-reporter is making an item at a nuclear power plant and sees an incident happening right before her eyes. The camerman (Michael Douglas) tapes it all and gives to tape to the anti-nuclear people.
First the corperation does not want to come out and says nothing has happened. One of the people working at the plant (Jack Lemmon) get regrets and wants to come out. The movie has it's highpoint in the end, in the contral room of the plant...

It is a very important movie to show to people the dangers of nuclear power plants and especially the role of human error. Still topical after 25 years, a must-see

Grumpier Old Men

starring: Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Ann-Margret, Sophia Loren, Burgess Meredith
directed by: Howard Deutch

April 03, 2001
Do you think grumpy is natural? Think again. Learn from the experts, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. They really make an odd couple" Odd Couple II, The - Neil Simon's" (1998). Who knew they could just get grumpier. And a new cutie has been added to the mix for this second in the grumpy series.

Stowaway in the Sky

starring: Jack Lemmon, Pascal Lamorisse, Maurice Baquet, André Gille
directed by: Albert Lamorisse

December 16, 1997
(Original title: LE VOYAGE EN BALLON.) Albert Lamorisse's first feature was made after the international success of THE RED BALLOON. It is also the first feature shot almost entirely from the air. It took 2 years of work on the helicopter used to still its vibrations before filming could begin. The plot is the merest wisp but it's enough to hang an adventure on. A man has invented what he claims is the best mode of transport--- a beautiful air balloon. Its altitude, direction & speed can all be controlled. Just as he is setting off on a demonstration flight his grandson (the director's son Pascal) climbs aboard, parrot in tow. What happens next is a lovely adventure in which their familiar world seen from a new perspective inexplicably becomes undiscovered country. Church spires become objects ... Read More:
