this is a very well done and engaging political thriller.it's base on an event which may or may not have occurred in 1984.it's about a rogue Russian Submarine that has disappeared and may be headed toward American territory.the question is,why?both the Russians and the U.S are hunting the sub and have their own reasons for doing so.but time is of the essence.the movie is basically a psychological suspense thriller.this isn't what i would call a nail biting movie,though it does has its moments.it's more of a character study,of one man in particular,the commander of the Russian sub.the last 30 minutes or so are quite tense and down to the wire.the whole movie is highly dramatic but not at all boring,thanks to good writing and directing.Larry ... while i don't think this is a great movie,i do think it is better than
the the last Jack Ryan film,Patriot Games.in Clear and Present
Danger,Harrison Ford once again plays Jack Ryan.this one has a bit more
intrigue than Patriot Games,and i also like the story more.it is more
developed.to me,this one has a bigger scope.there is bit more urgency
as well.having said that,i still think this movie is boring and
slow,more often than not.Like Patriot Games,it's certainly not
awful,but again i think maybe something got lost in the translation
from Tom Clancy's novel.it's also almost 2 and a half hours long,and i
think they could have trimmed some of it.still,it has it's good

i won't say this is a horrible film,because it isn't.i just found it
boring for the most part.there are a few tense moments,and there is a
bit of action.this movie is more of a drama than anything,in my
mind.it's a Jack Ryan movie,with Harrison Ford playing Ryan.it's based
on the novel by Tom Clancy.the acting is good,and the characters are
okay,just don't expect too much character development in this
one.anyway,for whatever reason,i just didn't find this movie very
compelling.i don't think it translated too well from the page to the
screen.it will be quite awhile before i watch it again.i have seen a
lot worse,but i've also seen a lot better.my vote for "Patriot
Games": 2.5/5

This film is still amazingly relevant today, even 44 years after its release and as a result it would be a travesty not to give it 5 stars - it is the bonus DVD that falls a bit short of the mark. Savage political satire with outstanding performances from a superb cast. Sellers and Scott outdo themselves. The only disappointment is the bonus DVD which could have provided such an important historical perspective to such a landmark film and the knife edge dangers of nuclear armageddon that the world was faced with in the early 60s. The first documentary feature is excellent, but could have talked more about the effect of the Cuban missile crisis on how close we came to obliteration - the rest of the special features are interesting but not that illuminating. This is a great movie, and the DVD video quality is excellent. However, Disney has remixed the soundtrack, and has left it very thin.
The introduction sequence is a spectacular extravaganza of animation, and is a classic presentation, however the original VHS audio was superior.
I thought perhaps I was imagining the low quality, so I plugged in my VHS version.
The waterfall can be heard rumbling in the VHS track, but is almost absent on the DVD.
The Elephant footprints come down with such force on the original that you are nearly vibrated off your seat, again on the DVD they are less than impressive.
Finally the finale - the powerful concluding thud on the drum that vibrates the walls and echos for several seconds. The VHS track leaves you awed, but ... Read More:

I am wondering why The Flight of Dragons (1982 animated film) with such a voice cast as James Earl Jones, John Ritter and Harry Morgan to name a few, with a fantastic soundtrack by Maury Laws and visual animation which has stood the test of time as something truly impressive and captivating, has not been released on to dvd, not even in America, why is this? The video was released by Warner Bros in 1999, why haven't they not ventured to try a dvd release? There is obviously a large following on the internet, You Tube has had frequent postings with clips from the film and even pirate copies have been sold and are on sale on ebay, how can this be allowed? This film has even been praised by Hayao Miyazaki yet no release has been presented, not even for a short period to satisfy demand. ... Read More:

INTRO:For the first time on DVD in 2006 the "original" films of the Star Wars trilogy were released,fans are finally getting the chance to see the original movies,"IV:A New Hope","V:The Empire Strikes Back" and "VI:Return Of The Jedi" as they were shown in theaters back in 1977,1980 and 1983 respectively.Altought those DVDs are said to be for a limited time only,its almost sure that there is going to be another version or release of those "as seen in theaters movies" in a special edition sometime soon.

ORGINAL,REALLY?:This is said to be the original movies,but still some of the mistakes like the blue rod wich held the Millenium Falcon model,that were present in the original version are not present here,making of them not so original,but i beleve that those are minor changes ... Read More:

Please stop whining about this DVD's aspect ratio. It's not "full-screen." It's widescreen with the original top and bottom sections restored.

According to film historian David P. Hayes, THE STING was filmed in 4:3 (equivalent to "full-screen") ratio because director George Roy Hill wanted it to look like an old movie. The studio (and/or the exhibitors) apparently had second thoughts about it, though, so theatrically-released prints had the top and bottom sections blocked ("matted") to fit the widescreen format.

What you see on this DVD is not "pan and scan" (with missing left and right content), but the original format with the top and bottom restored.
