This is one of the best Christmas movies to be released since the Rankin/Bass classics of yesteryear. It touches every heart, young and old. Christmas has become so commercialized, and this brings us back to reality in a fantasy sort of way. When you have faith in something as much as you see in this film, anything is possible. Heart warming, family oriented, and just a great story!

This is simple, well intentioned and instantly likeable film. Made in 1974, there are evident signs of the age of the film, but this works to its advantage. This is one of the classics. Perhaps not as famous as Old Yeller, it's "older brother", which also hailed from the Disney studio's, it is equally as likeable. Stewart Petersen does a terrific job as young Billy Coleman, and makes the character immensely likeable.
The film follows Billy's life, as he desperately saves money to buy a pair of hunting dogs. It is evident that he leads a fairly poor, but honest life, and struggles with his decision to buy the dogs, as opposed to giving the money to his Father. On going to collect the dogs, he is stared at by the local folk, almost ... Read More:

My 6-year-old is obsessed with this film. It seems like every time I hear the TV turn on, my daughter's got "Snow Dogs" popped into the VCR...again (sigh...)! It's harmless good fun and I certainly don't mind hearing her gleeful laughter resounding through the house. The only thing that gets on my nerves are the Michael Bolton references. Michael Bolton's music is used in the film soundtrack. Michael Bolton is a White recording artist, but his most successful releases have consistently been cover versions of songs by Black artists. The central character in "Snow Dogs" finds out that he's not only adopted but also only half-Black. His foster mother promptly quips that maybe this is the reason he likes Michael Bolton's music so ... Read More:

Balto was the malamute who led the last leg of a husky-malamute team some 53 miles in 1925 during the Diptheria Epidemic. The beautiful Eskimo dog has been immortalized in statue as a testament to his bravery in getting the team through so the medicine could be provided to the people needing it.
Although this fictionalized account of Balto's life off duty is just that, it does have some appealing qualities. The animation of Balto's mate, the beautiful husky Jenna; Balto's lineage revealing him to be a wolf-hybrid and the story of his beautiful, curly-tailed daughter, Aleu are all literary license that make the story appealing.
Although many disliked this film, it is deeper than it appears on the surface. Aleu is the only one of the ... Read More:

If you loathe children's movies, you'll like Babe. Its hard to explain how smart, funny & charming this movie is. Part of the charm is the fact that almost all of the characters have distinctive personalities. The humans act like normal humans and the animals have normal human emotions. Endlessly inventive and with a heart of gold. Tremendous fun for everyone.

Gold was found in Alaska, the rush to obtain it required a strong constitution and many dogs to do the work that horses usually did in the states. The environment bred harsh attitudes. Also in the testing of ones mettle one finds their true potential.
Buck (larger than most dogs) goes through many lives, trials, and tribulations finally realizing his potential. On the way he learns many concepts from surprise, to deceit, and cunning; he also learns loyalty, devotion, and love. As he is growing he feels the call of the wild.
You do not have to have read the book to follow the story. However being film much is accelerated and leaves less time for character and drama buildup. A few characters are removed but the main characters do not have to be modified ... Read More:

I have never really seen the first propally, but i could imagine the second been that bit better. Great for anyone, really cute doggies, and ther are 102 of them on a adventure near to the end.
I don't think I've ever seen such a high caliber of acting skills as were displayed in this fine example of celluloid genius. The character development from start to finish was heartwarming and intriguing. What an original idea too! I mean, a Golden Bear! This movie would have to be ranked up there with Casablanca, Citizen Kane and Shawshank Redemption. Please people, honestly, this film is a cinematic suppository and you actually run a risk of decreased intellect by watching it. BEWARE!
