Deneuve is in a subdued role in this film. She's also in a supporting role so the film cover is a bit misleading. The story is not as strong as others that she's chosen.

Daniel Auteuil is great as the cop who is entangled in the life of a trouble-making young woman. Extremely sexy in this role, he plays the role of a strong yet conflicted law enforcer well.

The film is a bit weak in its flow. It's not the worst film but it's also not extremely good either.

This movie was absolutely amazing. I dont watch foreign films usually but at the very beginning this attracted my attention all the way to the very end. Incredibly realistic, inspiring and true. The acting was superbly done by all the characters, and it cant get any more genuine then that.

The song that played in the movie was an amazing choice and perfect timing. I will watch this movie for years and years to come. And i think everyone should see it, who knows it just might relate to you in some way..

As someone who directed the play this movie was based on, I feel qualified to say that this film is lukewarm at best.

Now, the Hellman play had enough dated, corny moments to make any decent director tear her hair out (especially if the said director was slaving away directing for a two-bit, small-town, scuzzy, exploitative, unappreciative, social-climbing, pitiful, political, snotty, piddly community theatre in Alliance, OH which shall remain nameless, but that you can identity by following the rank, desperate, consumed-by-envy smell of the backstabbing, wannabe artist Board of Directors "Director").

So, you would think that the film, being funded and Holywood and all, would streamline the story and cut out all cheesy bits.

... exactly what Gay culture and lifestyle is like in any major city and is funny, unsettling honest (in the way that Gay people hated AL PACINO's racey yet truthful "Cruising" 1981 - sorry boyz, this was 1981 Gay culture), and totally believable and witty. I have to say, that ignoring the AIDS issue, the 'drag' factor (for the most part), and showing that all Gay men are not effeminate, needy or unhappy and promiscous for lack of anything else makes it the one and only film I would show my Mother ... she see my life then; and that of my friends : honestly, and not buttered up like the posh unreality of WILL & GRACE or QUEER EYE (like any masculine Gay man acts or dresses like that! : plezzze!).

ok first of all the people that rated this movie low are probly hicks for south werever or nerds that never get out. This movie hits right at home here in cailiforia. this movie is so great on so many levels. with lots of hidden meanings. even the alien him self is a hidden meaning. i think over all i still dont get this movie . even I have seen about 6 times. this movie deals with struggling teens dark or(james duval)just wants to be loved. people have to rember when this movie was made and how many rules it acutaly broke. it took alot of guts for gregg araki to do what he did in this movie...people !don't take this movie so seriously... after all it is a inde film. it does have messages. Cutie-Pie Christian Campbell & Hunk-of-the-Month JP Pitoc star in this "Here!" TV movie about one night in the life of two young guys just lookin' for a place to do it. The laughs are few & far between but the attractive cast, the pre-millenium NY skyline and the music sound track make this earnest & nostalgic piece of fluff quite watchable. 90min.

To understand this film you should understand whats its like to be from a family like this. Themovie played out like a home movie for me. The first reviewer from Mexico, is typical in his narrow mindedness about how "chicanos" live. How do you clearly represent a culture? This young boy was not "abused" by his father, he was ABUSED by his father. THis happenes a lot, in Mexico and America. The use of Cantinflas was not to link the characters to their Mexican roots,it was used by the mentally ill Mother as her escape from her painful existence. I don't know how the first reviewer lives or if he ever visited LA,and i don't mean the tourist locations, the real Barrios with real Chicanos, but, some lives are aggresive and crude.
