As someone who directed the play this movie was based on, I feel qualified to say that this film is lukewarm at best.
Now, the Hellman play had enough dated, corny moments to make any decent director tear her hair out (especially if the said director was slaving away directing for a two-bit, small-town, scuzzy, exploitative, unappreciative, social-climbing, pitiful, political, snotty, piddly community theatre in Alliance, OH which shall remain nameless, but that you can identity by following the rank, desperate, consumed-by-envy smell of the backstabbing, wannabe artist Board of Directors "Director").
So, you would think that the film, being funded and Holywood and all, would streamline the story and cut out all cheesy ... Read More:

I have never seen a more beautiful and innocent movie. Everything is realistically displayed through the eyes of a 7 year old boy, Ludovic. He believes himself to be a "girlboy" because god accidentally dropped his X chromosome into the trash which ultimately turned Ludovic into a boy. The movie is heartwrenching, but remains completely innocent. The whole atmosphere is innocense. I cried so hard while watching the movie. As the film progresses, Ludovic becomes less himself, choosing things based on other people's judgements than his own. He begins to become more timid, introverted, and tortured. His spirit is killed by everyone around him, especially his mother who supported him in the beginning. His mom cuts his hair; an asset that made him feel more ... Read More:

It's not your run of the mill movie with tons of special effects and no story line. This movie has a story, and if you can get past the oddness of it a very touching one. Good performances, cheers to Vincent D-Onofrio. This man is not afraid of any movie role that comes his way, and if you watch this movie you'll see what I mean. He tackled this role all the way!

March was Oscar month, and TCM (Turner Classic Movies) who showcase great Oscar movied showed ''Philadelphia'' with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington .
''Philadelphia'' is the powerful movie about a well educated and hardworking lawyer named Andy Beckette who contracts AIDS and is then illegally and prejudicely fired from his law firm when they find out he has AIDS.
The movie is nothing short of Excellent demonstrating not only the cold-blooded and hypocritical members of corporte society, but the indignities and prejudices that people living with AIDS have to go through.
The movie also brilliantly shows the courtroom tactics and lies that defendants and lawyers will use in order to win their case. The Defense (who represents the Law Firm ... Read More:

This film explores and scores, the concept behind what is a good roll model. A Father who is in every aspect a good and responsable parent living with his lover, is considered less fit that an abusive home where the child is harmed by the boyfriend of his Mother. The acting is exceptional and the script credible. It is not an uplifting film but it is one of the better films that removes a few typical cliches and allows you to see a better example of a gay man and his lover. A good movie that most should enjoy and an excellant movie to show for some one wanting to better understand differant perspectives. A good film for those getting comfortable with themselves.

I must say it's really sad that the powers that be can't find the time to make a more positive, constructive movie, especially when it includes a gay character.I really don't see the point in movies that either try to make the character from gay to straight or have a humorous spin on being gay,it's not funny being gay,to bad that more serious movies with uplifting positive gay themes were made instead of this immature toliet humor, where movie goers all hope that the girlfriend of the gayman will make him straight or being gay is all about disease, perverted old men or heartache.Alas i'm asking to much from straight morons and self hateing homosexuals who produce stupid negative movies toward gay men or lesbien woman to wake up and be more positive rather than negative, this crap is ... I must say that this was an excellant film all around. The quality of the production and the acting was outstanding. DeCaprio did a fantastic job, in fact the best acting I've ever seen him do to date. I was totally impressed with the story and I could not find one poor performance in the film. The script is based a true story with damatic additions I'm sure, however it was a very enjoyable film if only for the chance to see what I believe is some of the finest acting I've ever seen. This is a fantastic investment and a must for the video collection. Be aware that most of the film deals with subject matter best viewed by adults because of sexual content, implied sex acts and nudity. This is not a film for narrow minds or prudish thinkers.

I have somewhat conflicting opinions about this film, just as I have conflicting opinions about Oscar Wilde himself. No one can dispute the fact that Wilde was a literary genius; ample proof of this is found in the successful rehabilitation of his work in reputation long before the aspects of his infamous lifestyle became acceptable to even a minor fraction of society. If, as hardly seems possible, you aren't aware of the scandal associated with Wilde's downfall, this film spares the viewer few of the most intimate of details (in other words, there is male nudity and plenty of it). It's a brave film, featuring a most accomplished class of actors and actresses turning in terrific performances, but it doesn't feel perfectly complete to me. Rather than delivering a flamboyant Oscar Wilde who truly ... Read More:
