With the collapse of 3DO and New World Computing, fans of this series were left in limbo--what was to become of this iconic series, known for its simplicity and clarity of gameplay, yet deep strategy and replayability that offered up astounding value?

Well, the rights were picked up by Ubisoft, and developed by Nival. From what is usually regarded as a bleak (but different) Heroes 4, there came the fully 3-D, absolutely gorgeous, and very enjoyable Heroes 5. The earlier games always had such charm, and a rousing, instrumental fantasy soundtrack. 4 just seemed...off on everything, so it was a relief that 5 went back to its roots, taking on the best aspects of the benchmark 3, and the rather innovative but badly presented 4.

As a CIVILIZATION fan since the first DOS-version, I cannot begin to express my OUTRAGE towards FIRAXIS!!!

Sure, the graphics are nice; however, CIV games were always about large map overviews. This one trades off size for walking and rolling units. Apparently for a reason...

Spyware installation issues apart, CIVILIZATION IV was so prematurely released, it is hardly a beta version! Once you reach the 20-city limit this premature contraption crashes to the Desktop. Sometimes even sooner...
Unless you are willing to download the 78MB Patch (which only partially corrects all the shortcomings) play the Demo, that's all you are gonna play anyway!

Best Seller Series: Starcraft

Over the last 10 years that I first installed STARCRAFT I have replayed it countless of times. Every time a new overhyped game disappointed me, this is one of the games I pulled out of my library to be reminded what GREAT PC GAMES LOOK & PLAY LIKE! (others include UNREAL, BALDUR's GATE, GRIM FANTANGO and SHOGUN:TOTAL WAR)

Everyone has his/her favorite RTS and no one can claim that STARCRAFT introduced the futuristic RTS genre (that would be DUNE). Nevertheless, the great, crisp and clear graphics, the balanced units and the strategic terrain all contributed to turning STARCRAFT into a true classic. The game starts off great, good story and lots of hooks coming back from the first game. After countless dead ends and plot twists that go nowhere I got fed up. This is easily the most frustrating game I have ever played. A pale immitation of the original KOTOR.

Sid Meier's Civilizaion IV - Warlords is described as an "Expansion Pack" but in truth, it is really an essential pack. Not only does Warlords provide the player with a larger number of rivals, add-ons such as great generals and special buildings, Warlords also provides the user with patches to update and improve the running of Civ IV. Like all games, there are its share of problems and loading can be a bit slow, particularly if you're playing an epic game with many players. Although Civ IV & Warlords is quite the step up from Civ 3, Civ 2 still remains the "classic" in my opinion. The addition of religion is nice as well (also present in Civ Iv), but as others have said, a more multi-layered facet of religion (i.e. specialties for each religion) would have been ... Read More:
