Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk Review: One of the best things about the Game Boy Color is that it is basically an original Nintendo Entertainment System that can fit in your pocket. What this means for gamers is that many of the great games for the classic system are being ported to the Game Boy Color, giving us a chance to re-play (or in some cases discover) the best game titles from the '80s. Nintendo's own Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is among the first of these conversions, and it certainly remains one of the best. Actually, calling this game a conversion really doesn't do it justice. This version actually contains more levels than the original game, including the entire Japanese version and a slew of extras (such as a two-player mode). The controls in this game are easy to grasp--even for novice gamers. All Mario can do is jump (and shoot fireballs with the right power-ups), but it is amazing to see how much gameplay can be squeezed from these simple actions when the controls work in direct harmony with a player's thoughts. The only element of this game that could have been better is that the Game Boy Color's screen isn't quite large enough to show the entire layout of the original game screen, so players may occasionally need to press up and down on the control pad to see some off-screen action. While this can be distracting, it ultimately has minimal impact on gameplay. If you are looking for the quintessential side-scrolling platform game, you can't do much better than Super Mario Bros.  Rating:  - a game from 1985 that's still greatthis is a remake of the 1985 classic super mario bros that was originally on the nes. 8 worlds, 4 levels in each trying to save the princess. But apart from just a remake it also includes a generous helping of extras. it supports the gameboy printer. there are lots of rewards to collect, there is a challenge mode where you must find things in each level or complete it with a certain score. Then the thing that seals the deal for me is the super hard (yet much easier than it's original japenese release) is the real super mario bros 2 or the lost levels (it's not the one with the vegetables). This is one of the few places we westeners can play this hard sequel to a classic so just this is a reason to buy this game Rating:  - Unavoidably AddictiveThe music can be darn annoying after a little while, but the game itself is excellent. The new colour format of this clasic game brings it to life, as Mario jounreys to save the Princess. When you get killed, and have to start again, it makes you even more determined to crack the level, and before you realise it, you've been playing for over an hour. A top game - thumbs up! Rating: - Fantastic port of the best ever platform game.This is a fantastic remake from the NES original. Mario on the NES was about as good as gaming ever got. This improves on it. What more can I say? Miyamoto the legendary games designer was behind this game... and it was because of the quality of the Mario games that Nintendo did so well in the 8-bit days of gaming. This game therefore, apart from being fantastic fun is also a piece of gaming history. A must-have along with Tetris and Zelda for all GameBoy Color owners. |
