 Rating: - Dante's Peak's more originalI feel this movie was just copied from Dante's Peak, And they thought they could get away with it by putting it in a City! Erm, hello, have they gone utterly blind? We dont go watching movies if we're blind. It's as if they didnt want to actually think of any ideas of their own except the Volcano inside the City. Despite the bad things about it, it is worth to watch atleast once to see for your self and to decide if you like it or not. Acting is ok, could have been better. Above all, this movie only deserves a 3 star rating. Rating:  - Does catastrophe neessarily entail male saviors?A catastrophe film has a simple formula. A perfectly beautiful situation. Los Angeles. With a hint of a problem. Earthquakes. Then some small elements that could lead to something else and a few geologists to prove it with theories that prove nothing but create anxiety. The geologists are women and that adds a touch of male-chauvinism when all the men (and they are only men, firemen, policemen, all kind of city workers and underground operators and security people, men, men and men again, and if you can find women they are geologists, doctors, nurses, news journalists, but not security personnel, though there might be one or two on the fringes but not in the middle of the action) of the security services don't believe her. I was quite surprised by the amount of low ratings on this because its such a good film! So ok, if you have seen Dantes peak, you will notice that the acting seems more slow moving/serious than in this.. however, once Volcano gets started properly its quite good! I saw this on television a while back but didnt actually realize it was volcano as i get confused with these volcano movies and what i've actually seen. My friend lent me this and it was definitely worth spending the time to watch. The movie begins quite eery but then stars building upto the main crisis in the film, which appeared quite quickly, which i like. Read More: Rating: - not badiv seen it before a few times and have just seen it now on channel 4. when i look back at this film all i see is a film to watch either on a friday or saturday night if your bored. Theres nothing special about it but its good entertaining fun i guess and the beggining is excellent, it really builds up the tension, but as we get nearer towards the end it really then plumets (if you know what i mean) thats why iv given it 3 stars. it worth watching on tv not worth buying. to sum up its good family fun (not little kids though they would get quite scared) the begining is good but the ending is a bit of a drag. The disaster must be plausible, however absurd it is I can believe in earthquakes in L.A, hotels catching fire and passenger liners sinking, but the prospect of a volcano suddenly appearing in Beverley Hills is absurd. And where is the all-star cast? Yes, there's Tommy Lee-Jones and that woman who used to go out with Ellen DeGeneres (miscast as the love interest), but that's it.
