Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
The first of the now-famous Tomb Raider games is a must-have for every gaming fan. You are Lara Croft, a tough, beautiful, sophisticated female Indiana Jones--think of a British Demi Moore in a fedora. Lara climbs walls, leaps chasms, and generally defies gravity using impressive gymnastics. All of her actions are intricately modelled to produce the life-like athleticism that made Tomb Raider--and Lara Croft--famous.

But Lara's got more than good looks and smooth moves to help her on her globetrotting quest for relics. Like guns. Lots of guns. Lara begins her adventures with her trademark pistols, wielded John-Woo-style: one in each hand. She eventually works her way up to Uzis and even adds a handy shotgun to her arsenal, perfect for taking down a troublesome tyrannosaurus found in some steamy Tibetan lost world.

Here's the story: having made a name for herself as a finder of antiquities, Lara is hired by a mysterious woman to find an artifact believed to have come from Atlantis. Lara travels around the world, plumbing the depths of long- or best-forgotten locales. As she discovers clues to the artifact's whereabouts, she also uncovers the true motivation behind her employer's search. The intriguing plot is told through gorgeous computer animation movie-cut scenes interspersed throughout the game's episodes.

As you venture to and through various ancient tombs, a host of enemies and puzzles await you. In fact, it is the puzzles that will keep players interested even after the challenge of slaying enemies has passed. Also hidden throughout the game are a number of secret rooms and hidden treasures, unnecessary for completion of the game but adding a level of complexity and replay value. Being one of the few video game characters to grace mainstream magazine covers, Lara Croft is part of video game history. --Allen Stewart

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A true icon - the original and still the best
Rhona Mitra is not as wonderfully airbrushed in her beauty as Angelina Jolie, but she'd still kick her derriere.
That's how I feel about this, Lara's first incarnation.
Compared to the fluidity and polish of Tomb Raider: Anniversary (the remake of this, eleven years on), Tomb Raider looks chunky and dated.
Don't let that fool you, this game and this alone is the reason the PlayStation brand leads the world today.
Once played, never forgotten.
Most of you reading this review will already have played it and are merely curious as to other people's views, so let me try a little experiment.
Think: Lara being chased by wolves. I bet you can hear the music now, can't you?
If by some bizarre quirk of fate ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best game ever!
Ok, todays games make Tomb Raider seem dated and chunky, but I'd play this over any one of them any day. It's very playable and scary, with some fantastic music and locations.

When I first saw this game being played, I was so impressed...I'd never seen a 3-D game before, but I remember thinking that it would be too hard to master the controls. I couldn't have been more wrong! Now it's second nature, and that's all to do with the addictive quality this game brings out in people!

From creepy caves to mummy-filled pyramids, this game will have you gripped from start to finish, and the areas you will visit are stunning, even if they are not as realistic as they are in Lara's latest adventure.

If you are still ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic game!
I'm going to make this short and sweet. WHAT A FANTASTIC GAME! The graphics are not really high def. but i dont give a damn! once you get past the first few levels it can get quite interesting and with some freaky moments. I think the graphics and the story make this game my favourite game!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lara's First Adventure And It's Still Cool!
Lara's first game ever and it's one of the best games in the world and now tomb raider anniversary is out it's great but take a look at this game no sorry buy it it's great it's what made adventure games so cool with it's classic levels and with it's hard puzzels it's the one 2 buy 10/10 buy or die!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tomb Raiding is just addictive
The first and the best! When I first bought TR I didn't know a thing about Lara or Tomb Raiding but I soon learned and 10 years on I still play the game on rainy sundays and sleepy saturday afternoons. I can't say that about one other game I own. They should be giving a copy of this away with the remake so that everyone can judge the two together.
I like the controls, simple and straight forward ... leap and shoot, walk and wonder.I have a hard time with PS2's little joysticks and often long for the D-Pad.
Graphically it's ancient now but the sense of wonder has never left me. Lara's puzzles will keep you head-scratching and coming back for more time and time again. Lets hope that anniversary lives up to it. This is the best game I ... Read More:
