Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk Review: Fighting off a deadly virus isn't everybody's cup of tea, but to Aya Brea, the returning star of Parasite Eve 2, it is. You play Aya, an FBI agent investigating a string of strange incidents involving Neo-Mitochondrion Creatures--a small spherical rod-like-bodied creature bounded by a double membrane in the cytoplasm of most cells to you and me. Set in a landscape similar to the likes of Resident Evil and Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve 2 oozes with Hollywood cut sequences and a storyline to match. Walk a couple of paces and another cut scene will set the story on its next legs, giving you the feeling that sometime you aren't even playing a game. Couple this with the rather impressive graphics for the PlayStation and you are presented with a game that is strong on storyline, whilst at the same time being at the higher end of the graphics food chain. Of course not everything is all singing and dancing. Because of the cinematic approach to the game, the camera angles can get confusing--sometimes you walk towards the camera, other times away from it. Yet if you are used to this, and let's face it, if you've played any 3D RPG you are, then this is a minor point into what is a rather atmospheric game. If you loved Final Resident and Fantasy Evil whilst enjoying Alone in the Hill and Silent Dark, this is definitely up your street, whilst people new to this style of game will find it as good a place as any to get into the genre as you gather information to crack the case set before you. --Stuart Miles Product Description: Aya Brea is back to defend the world from the mitochondrial menace in Parasite Eve II. This story takes place three years after the New York incident of the first game, when the horrible mutations are supposedly a thing of the past. Now working for the FBI in Los Angeles, Aya is called on to join the Mitochondrial Investigation and Suppression Team (MIST) to hunt down dangerous monsters and keep the disease from spreading. To do that, she must unravel the conspiracy that seeks the destruction of all humankind. Parasite Eve II features an enhanced, real-time battle system that will allow players to use a large array of modern weaponry. These guns, built into the game with realistic fire rates, can even be upgraded with parts that you buy or find.  Rating:  - Better Than Resident Evil?For some very strange reason Parasite Eve 1 wasn't released for PAL so only those serious gamers who imported the US NTSC version will have had the opportunity to play it. What PAL gamers missed was/is one of the most original and cinematic takes on the survival-horror gaming genre made popular by the likes of Alone in The Dark and, of course, Resident Evil and it's sequels. Parasite Eve blended an involving storyline with a fairly sophisticated and, as far as I'm aware unique, RPG type (but far better than usual) tactical fighting system. This was later used in much greater depth for the peerless Vagrant Story. Parasite Eve 2 continues the story although still making sense as a stand alone game. It also uses the same presentation ... Read More: Rating:  - BOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!!!All of the people that have reviewed this game and have gave it 5 stars obviously havent played Parasite eve 1, the sequel i must say is absolutly boring and DRY i only gave it 1 star because it is continuing from the prequel parasite eve 1 and has the story behind the michondria. When i bought this game i was seriously hyped up, i took it home and played on it, the begging i must say was RUBBISH. Lord help me when i got to the desert stage, i had never in my entire life been so dissapointed in a game. It was a whole different story when i first played on parasite eve 1 the game was more gripped on the mitchondria and eve. It is a brilliant blend of Resident Evil and Final Fantasy - magic attacks, experience points and a slight hint of strategy; and at the same time all the joys of blasting the hell out of strange monsters with big guns! The game has loads of different weapons, armour, items and upgrades. The game takes hours and hours to complete with many different ways to go about doing so. A real must if you are a fan of survival horror or RPGs. |
