Shedding the two-dimensional graphics and limited sound capabilities of its predecessors, Final Fantasy VII features lush 3-D graphics, beautifully animated "movie" sequences, and soundtrack-quality music. Coupled with the game's intricate storyline, endearing characters, and an immense yet highly imaginative world, these new advancements make for a quite an engrossing experience. The story of Final Fantasy VII centres around a solider named Cloud Strife, who joins forces with Avalanche, a group of resistance fighters, to take down an evil mega-corporation known as Shinra. (The fate of the world hangs in the balance, of course.) Truly epic in scope, this three-disc game requires a considerable amount of time to complete---this reviewer gladly gave up over 80 hours of his life to finish it.  Rating: - I don't give five stars for many games, but...If ever there was a game worthy, this is it. If two-hundred and fifty-two reviews (about two-hundred and forty of which give a five-star rating), ten million units sold and countless spin-offs created to fill the hunger isn't reason enough to give this a bash, then you'd probably be better off selling your console. Final Fantasy VII (FF7) is heralded as the best RPG ever and one of the best games ever. I could go on forever about this game, but I'll try and keep it under two thousand. Visually, FF7 is ageing. There is no denying that it looks old by today's standards, but it still remains functional, fluid and (in the case of the FMVs and the battle sequences) quite something to look at. Sadly playing this over ten years on, and on a large plasma screen tv, it does look dated. The design is still good but the large screen really highlights the difference ten years can make in graphics. Hence my comment about it needing and update, sharpen the visuals a little and voila. Anyway the game, why is it the best final fantasy? is it the characters? maybe, is it the story ? maybe. I think it is the setting it is beautifully designed and varied, the later FF games while very pretty they do not have the variety. The worlds are more limited and seem less fantastic. This is the most epic of Final fantasies in the whole collection (and i have the whole collection). I just completed Crisis core recently so i can make more sense of the story line on this game but its not that hard to realise what happens, just tiwts in that particular story can be confusing for some. I would advise anyone who like RPG to get this game and it has been rated 3rd best game by Game. Rating: - Comparison with FF7First, to be clear, I started to play final fantasy series with FF7 after I played other RPG games such as Diablo and wizardry etc... I have enjoyed all those great games but the experiences with FF7 were phenomenal. I got the game when it was just released in the U.K and FF7's graph design was the greatest among all of the RPG games at the time. However, this review is not about how good this game is, if you want to know how wonderful this game is, read other 200+ positive reviews in Amazon. I would like to point out some fact that some reviewers think FF is not a true RPG games and not enough controls and game play e.g. D&D or Diablo.
