Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
As with the other games in the series, Final Fantasy IX has the ability to grab your attention from the time you fire it up until the last boss is put down. Previous entries into the game's lineage took a more dramatic cinematic route to do what a role-playing game does best--tell a story. That style led to some complaints from headstrong fans and role-playing gamers alike. In response to this, while not sacrificing what new technology they've built into the series, SquareSoft has backtracked a bit. To put it simply, they've gone back to their roots.

But even players with no experience in this series can pick this up as a new game. Final Fantasy IX's story follows a group trying to stop Brahne, the evil Queen of Alexandria, in her quest to rule the world. Zidane, a skilled thief, teams with a young mage, a royal knight and a princess, who all soon discover that the queen's threats are fronting an even more sinister plot involving a powerful sorcerer named Kuja. It's your job to control the eight playable characters--each of whom begin the game with one weapon, one piece of armour and one special power--and to uncover Kuja's motives before he carries out his deadly plan.

The game's opening sequence sets the stage for what's to follow and, as we've come to expect from the CG wizards at SquareSoft, what is an utterly amazing visual scene. Long-time fans will revel in SquareSoft's decision to return to the disproportional-character look of the past.

Like VII and VIII, Final Fantasy IX uses the ATB (Active Time Battle) system. With each character learning the abilities and commands appropriate to his or her job class.

An Active Time Event (ATE) lets you see events that are happening elsewhere. For example, while you are controlling the main character in a town, you can view what the other characters are doing in another part of the same town. This function provides additional information and behind-the-scenes details about the story and the characters.

The game's visual splendour touches even the most ordinary scenes, such as shadows in the street alleys and the mazes of cobblestones. Final Fantasy IX's colour palette does a remarkable job in creating interest on every single object, location and person.

This will be SquareSoft's last venture on the PlayStation for the Final Fantasy Series, with its awesome graphics, a good story, and random battles that reveal curious bits about each character, Final Fantasy IX is an epic adventure that'll have long-time fans of the acclaimed series beaming with pride and joy. As for everyone else who has yet to experience the Fantasy, now is the time! --Stuart Miles

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - BEST FF EVER!
Ok i have the platnum version and i have wrote a review about it, but im going to put more detail into this one.

You play as Zidane Tribal a half man half monkey lol possibly the most lovable FF Character ever... yep even better than Cloud and Squall.

I don't know why people put in there reviews not as good as VII, sure its easyer but thats good and its not as frustrating as VII.

The controls we're abit dodgy in VII too, and the controls in this one ROCK!

And in VII you get 3 party members in battle, in IX you get 4.

The characters are more loving(In my opinion)

Equiping is much more easyer which makes the game better.

The graphics are much better than ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Simply Breathtaking
Firstly I would like to say that i do not consider mysalf as a great conessuer in all that is RPG but since i started playing this game 6 years ago it has never let go. The story is epic and everything that you might want in an epic story is included. Romance Evil Plot twits and awsome gameplay are all there. The game is satisfi=yingly long so that you never feel that its never getting anywhere. Also the story is fast paced and gameplay is easy to pick up. Since playing this game I have played most of the other Final Fantasies and I ahve to say that this one is by far the best. Along with the story are rewarding and challenging sidequests to divert your attention away from your main aim. Finaly i would just like to say that it is definitely worth ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I think this is the best FF game ever !
I played this FF game first and I have played it several times since, RPGs are definitely my thing, I loved the storyline, the charachters, the battles, the music, the sidequests and I have never looked back ! FF remains my favourite series, I have played FF7/8/9/X/X-2 and am currently involved (up to 46 hrs already) in FF12, I hope they keep on making them, even if its just for me. I also really loved Dragon Quest Search For The Cursed King, Kingdom Hearts (2 more than 1) Dark Cloud & Dark Chronicle. By the way I'm no spotty 14yr old boy locked in his bedroom playing into the small hours (sorry to all those aforementioned!), I'm a 37yr old female who often burns the dinner (my ps2 is in the kitchen!) My partner has often been heard saying to ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Outstanding
Firstly i will say that Final Fantasy IX is a piece of art.
From the breathtaking musical score to the simply gorgeous graphics, that really did push the Playstation one to its Limit, some of the background textures still make me pause for a second look 6 years on.
i have to admit the first time i played this i was only 13 and so some of the deeper meanings in the game went straight over my head, but after picking up a copy earlier this year , i played through and the twists and turns ( unlike others seem to think) are not childish , but are deep and intriguing.
the characters are all interesting , and the black mage returns in form of Vivi , who in my opinion is one of the best characters for a long time in a FF game, there is also ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Animals Of 0F FF9
Yup well the Characters in this Game most of em are Animals the Main Character Zidane Tribal is Half Mouse/Rat and Half Human, Freya is like a Rabbit, Brahne is like a Huge Pig
Anywho The Story Is Of Zidane and his Team are planning to Kidnap Garnet Queen Brahne Daughter however what they don't know is that Garnet wants to be Kidnapped because she knows that her Mother has turned Evil however Steiner Captain of The Knights Of Pluto has sworn to Protect Garnet at all costs
The Storyline is good but something just lacks I don't like it much but nothing real big is wrong with it it's just I cant seem to like it for some reason anyway I'd still Reccommened it

(Sorry about the lack of Punctuation I suck at it but still if you get FF9 ... Read More:
