Little to say which would sum up this recorder/player. A man who has had nearly every Sharp recorder, this has to be my best. Looks great, sounds terrific and has been trouble free and pocket friendly. Love it!!

Being my first minidisc pucrchase, Ive got nothing really to reference this opinion against, but overall I found this player to be fantastic.
The quality of sound it produces, even compared to a personal CD player is streets ahead, and when combined with the sony street-style headphones, nothing else really comes close! The advice I was given, when buying this particular model was that it was the best on the market at the moment, and I have no reason to doubt that fact.
If anyone is worried about buying a non-Sony model, as I was at the time, a friend of mine bought a sony model for a similar price as I paid at the same time as me, and I was almost embarassed to show her my minidisc. It looked, felt, and sounded so far ... Read More:

I have had the Sharp MT877 for over a year and have found it to be absolutely brilliant. Whilst the buttons are a little bit fiddly I have never had a significant problem with them, and the styling and sound quality are excellent. Contrary to some of the reviewers experiences I have found MDLP very useful, the quality at LP2 is barely reduced from normal, and LP for is good for spoken media; you can copy whole books or language courses from CDs and they sound fine, the battery lasts much longer too!
As to reliability, my sister and I have both owned the sharp for over a year and have had no problems at all; my girlfriend and a friend of mine bought Sonys, at the same time as I got the Sharp and they have had nothing but problems ... Read More:

Many Sharp MiniDisk players feature a screen on the front of the player-which is relatively easy to damage. Whilst this feature is still useful it is not well protected. In my experience any Sony MiniDisk player is leagues above almost any other make. Sharp MiniDisk players lack the quality of build of other players in my opinion. The sound quality of this player is fine though and long play is pointless.

I bought this model and had it approx 3 days before I took it back to the store, and asked for my money back. In comparison to older sharp MD models (821/821) this feels very tinny and is nowhere near as robust. The controls are far too small and fiddley. The gimmick of having MDLP is just that....a gimmick!. The sound is horribly compressed at x 4, that it renders it a totally worthless feature in my opinion. If you really MUST have a MDLP - the Sony 900 is the best on the market for sure, but if I were you I'd stick with the older models if you can still find them out there. For my money you can't beat these 2.....AIWA AM-F80 and Sharp MD-MT831
