Amazon.co.uk Review: New and refreshed, this latest Alphabet Pal from LeapFrog includes all the great features from its popular predecessor plus several new ones to add to the fun. A bright cheery purple, Alphabet Pal has 26 little legs each with a coloured shoe and a different letter from the alphabet. There are four unique learning modes to help teach your toddler. Switch Alphabet Pal to learning mode one and press one of the shoes to hear the cheery caterpillar say the (upper case) name of the letter written on that shoe. Learning mode two operates in the same way but this time says the (lower case) phonic sound of that letter. Happily, times have changed from when all electronic toys had American pronunciations, and Alphabet Pal pronounces his phonic sounds the English way. Learning mode three teaches the colour of the shoe just pressed--red, blue, green or yellow. And finally learning mode four encourages musical awareness. Each shoe pressed plays a different tune--all tunes beginning with the letter written on that shoe. So press "L" to hear the tune from "London's burning". And here's the hidden challenge for all parents--how many of the 26 different tunes do you recognise? Relaxing on Alphabet Pal's back is a very spaced-out little insect who if pressed will hum the melody to the Alphabet song. And just to show that Alphabet Pal lives up to the companionship of his name, he's got a little cord around his neck so your toddler can take him for a walk. Not surprisingly this is when he's happiest and one tug of his cord also sets him into song. As well as all the more obvious developmental aids such as encouraging language and auditory skills, Alphabet Pal has lots of hidden teaching skills too: pressing down on his shoes encourages fine motor skills, while taking him for his afternoon walk helps develop toddlers' gross motor skills. As always LeapFrog are parent friendly too and have thoughtfully added a volume control switch on Alphabet Pal's back.  Rating: - So good, my husband has stolen it!I bought this for my one year old niece and made the mistake of showing it to my husband. After 5 minutes, he decided that our 2 month old baby loved it and that Isabel couldn't possibly have it. At 3 months old now, Bobby is facinated by it and is just starting to reach out for toys. I can't wait for him to get into it and I'm sure he will love playing with it for a good while. N.B. The first thing my intelligent, mature husband tried was making it say a 'rude' word (e.g. pressing 's' and 'x' in quick succession). It giggles and says 'that tickles! He's now trying to find as many words as he can to tickle it! Rating: - Hidden FeatureGood Fun By far the best feature is when you try and make Alphabet Pal spell a rude word. Instead of saying the word it will say 'That Tickles'. Rating: - EVERY CHILD SHOULD HAVE ONE!!!This is a fantastic toy that only seems to get better each time my 18 month old uses it! He's had it since he was 7 months and plays with it every day still as he's still learning all the features. It teaches colours, phonetics, ABC and plays a different song for each letter of the alphabet - this is what he learnt first and now knows which letters house his favourites. He also loves the little bug button lying on the caterpillars back and likes it when it introduces itself when you switch the toy on. Then if you press a second time, it plays the music for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star which he does all the actions to. If you pull the string at the front, it also launches into the ABCDEFG song .. to the same tune. And the best ... Read More: Rating: - Put your child in the A streamAstonished when two year old Abbie without any demonstration started to push buttons on this toy and then repeated the letters and colours spoken by the toy. The toy also survived being thrown off a table! Excellent educational value as always from Leapfrog. Rating: - The best ABC toy on the marketOur daughter has been enhanted and capitvated by Alpha Bug (now Alpha Pal) since she was 1 year old. Not only is it a great learning toy but it also has become one of her favourite amimals. As soon as she was talking, she was mimicking the intro "hi my name is alpha bug" and soon after was singing her ABCs (British english, not American english). Once she started walking, Alpha Pal followed her everywhere, even on walks outside (very durable). Now, at 1.75 years, she is using the colour and music features. Highly recommended. |
