Product Description: High quality compact Stereo Digital Microphone.Main Features:Uni-directional (stereo) system for natural panoramic recordingDirectivity angle between left and rightOFC two core-shielded microphone cordChannels can be set at 90 or 120 degreesL-shaped gold plated stereo mini plugSupplied with holder/stand and pouch for portable use...
Manufacturer's Description: This compact, portable microphone is for advanced amateur use and is ideal for instrumental recording, thanks to Sony's sensitive Electret condenser microphone. The one-point stereo design--a single mic for stereo recording--is like having two microphones in one. This mic is ideal for portable DAT or MD digital recorders, with a frequency response of up to 18,000 Hz and a 90 dB dynamic range, and is a great complement to digital recording systems.
The mid/side (MS) capsules create a natural stereo panorama; the mid capsule picks up monophonic sound while the side capsule picks up left/right difference sound. Subtracting and adding the two capsule signals yields separate left and right channels and permits electronic adjustment of the pickup angle. The mid/side (MS) switch also selects pickup angle between the left and right channels.
Choose 90 degrees for a single voice or instrument, or 120 degrees to pick up many voices and instruments arranged across the stage. The rotating mid capsule adjusts the stereo-pickup pattern for a wide range of recording situations. A Cannon XLR connector from the microphone body to the supplied cable provides a secure, reliable, low-noise connection, while the oxygen-free copper Litz cord ensures superlative conductivity, minimum loss, and minimum noise. The L-shaped stereo miniplug fits most portable recorders. Supplied accessories include a detachable cable, stand, holder, windscreen, and carrying case.

Having read many reviews before purchasing this microphone I have to say that the previous comments are totally accurate. I wanted a mike that I could use with my PC to dub over videos that I edit prior to burning to disc. Previous mikes have allowed the hum of the PC hard drive to be detected and this has been eradicated with the mike. Setting the control to 90deg allows me to have total control over the input with no outside nosie interference. I have also used this mike in a church wedding via my Camcorder where previously the dialog of a church service has been difficult due to high ceilings and lots of echo. Using a 10m extension cable with no loss of qaulity I am highly delighted with the results. I aslo think the price is excellent.

I play a number of instruments and often make recordings to play back. The sound really is crystal clear, for the price point its good value and just what you expect from SONY

Great quality, although it would be better if it could pick up things further away.

I bought this mic here because it cost the same as a used one on ebay, and have used it to record complex (ie varying dynamics, loud/soft, accapella and amplified) music. Despite being near the back of the hall the sound was clear and due to the switchable 90/120 degree pattern, in good stereo. I used it with a Sony MZ900 minidisc, which gave me adjustable record level and mic sensitivity, and would recommend either (or both) to anybody wanting tocapture a variety of live music. One point to note is that, if recording discreetly, ie mic held down at seat level, the side elements (using the 120 degree position) will pick up sounds from the audience. This isn't a criticism of the mic, just that it's quite sensitive and best to monitor the position ... Read More:

An excellent microphone. I wasnt too sure when i got the microphone whether or not it would pick up my guitar playing very well, and whether there was going to be fuzzy background noise. But amazingly, there was no fuzzy background noise. The sensitivity on the mic is amazing. You can also set different levels of the mic according to your mini disc or player that you have. this is a very good microphone for musicians, teachers who want to record in a concert or at home. A very well worth product, at a very reasonable price.
