The elements that made the first two games (on the PlayStation) a success are back: tight controls, a deep trick system, a wide selection of skaters (including Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Rodney Mullen, Chad Muska, Elissa Steamer and others) and a slick soundtrack (featuring the Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Motorhead, KRS-One, Redman and more). Adding to the already brilliant formula is a new trick and GameCube-enhanced graphics. In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, players were introduced to the Manual--a move that greatly revolutionised the series' gameplay. This instalment introduces the Revert, and while it isn't as significant an addition as the Manual, it does add another layer to the already deep trick system. The game features solid graphics, but a level of detail was sacrificed in order to make the game's levels so large. There are a few moments of frame skipping and polygon clipping, but these instances are rare and don't overshadow the stellar gameplay. Career mode is as deep as ever, with eight objective-filled levels. In this single-player mode players traverse their way through some brilliantly designed courses to achieve high scores, collect the letters to the word "skate", find hidden video tapes and interact with level-specific objects. Two players can participate in the five multiplayer mini-games, which include King of the Hill, Horse, and Trick Attack.  Rating:  - Just like before ...... but even better. I'd originally played Tony Hawks 1 and 2 on the dreamcast and loved them and completed them. I brought TH3 for the Gamecube a day or so ago with some reservations, such as 'will it be as good as the dc versions?' and, 'I don't want to be disapointed'. I wasn't. It's brilliant. And time rolls smoothly by at a fast pace whilst playing. Tony Hawk's 4 with "T.H.U.G." out soon ...? You bet I'll be buying both!! Fun. Fun. Fun. Rating:  - Ages to finishIt's good that this title is a multi-format title as owners of all consoles get to experience the delight that is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. With all new tricks including the revert which adds a whole new level of gameplay to the game, as did the manual in THPS2. Players of previous versions will ease back into the controls and new players will either master the controls fairly quickly or not at all. To finish this game, and I mean finish (Complete every goal, collect every stat point and board with every character including the secret characters and one created skater) will take you months and collecting everything will provide as an incentive to carry on as well as the sense of accomplishment when you do finish. Great game, buy it now. Read More: Rating: - blightywooThis game is great. better graphics than the ps2 version, the secret levels are good too(warehouse,burnside and roswell). The gameplay is typical tony hawks, arcade simplicity with enough challenge to keep you wanting to play more. I have now completely completed the game(took me a month, but now i can do it in under a week). The trick system is once again revolutionary, and the animations are seamless. ROLL ON TONY HAWKS 4. Rating: - SuperbHey this is great! Buy it now! Not only can you skate for hours on end always finding new ways of wasting time or beating high scores but it is addictive. One look at the great graphics and you'll have to master it before you can stop. Plus it has a great 2 player, (From trick attack to Horse) so grab a mate and the fun will never end. Only problem is it's only 2 players - well nothing's perfect. |
