Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
The promise of mature gaming on the GameCube finally comes from a top quality release courtesy of Nintendo itself. Get ready to shoot, jump and puzzle your way through Metroid Prime, the creepiest, coolest GameCube game yet.

As difficult to pigeonhole as its predecessors, Metroid Prime is not, despite what the first person viewpoint might suggest, just a shoot-'em-up. Containing as much platform jumping and puzzle solving as shooting, the game is more like an action-based version of Zelda than any one-note Doom clone.

As usual the game stars bounty hunter Samus Aran (perhaps gaming's only female character that isn't scantily clad) in her ongoing battle to contain the freaky jellyfish-like metroids. To do this she must explore and search every nook and cranny of the game world, not just for ways to uncover the plot but for upgrades to her super-cool armoured battle suit. These range from obvious things such as new weapons and gadgets like an infra-red visor to a grappling hook and the hugely satisfying morph ball, which allows you to turn into a giant metal ball bearing and explore previously inaccessible areas.

Apart from its uniquely involving gameplay Metroid Prime also features some of the best graphics ever seen on a home console. What's more, they aren't just used in a soulless technical demo; they're used to create a creepy and totally immersive atmosphere unrivalled by any other title. As an added bonus, Metroid Prime connects to the Game Boy Advance title Metroid Fusion to unlock a hidden costume and the complete version of the original Metroid game for the NES. All in all, this is likely to be one of the best games you'll find for some time. -- David Jenkins

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - The brutal truth
I have had this for a while and really haven't bothered with it too much, why?
If I had seen past the overhyped reviews I would have seen a game that has, very few save points that have to be traipsed back to time and time again, respawning enemies the minute you leave/re-enter a room, combine this with the lack of save points and it's a nightmare to save your game should you just want to switch it off,the developers obviously thought you wouldn't want to do anything else!
You have to scan everything by changing visors constantly back and forth, why it wasn't passive is beyond me,and you can get lost quite easily as you flitter to and fro doing one of the above.
In it's defense, the controls are very good, the graphics are crisp and ... Read More:

I am loving this game! Beautiful, wonderful structure, involving sound design.

Got it cheap from Game a year ago and didn't bother playing it till last month. What a fool.

Now I'm in a quandary: bought a Wii last week and have completely got into Super Mario Galaxy (looks great with a component cable on flatscreen BTW). Do I ditch Mario for Samus? And is it worth getting Metroid Prime 2 given that the Wii came with MP3? And why am I asking you? This isn't a forum!

I've heard that the visuals of Gamecube games played through a component cable on the Wii are improved...I just cannot wait to try this out. Really, it's making me lose control of all my bodily functions!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - metroid prime-so cool!!!!!!!
this is such a cool game it has had me glued to my tv for hours on end.
sometimes ill stop playing but ill always come back to it .

bye it nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - possibly the best game ever
I put off buying this at first because, at the time, I was not a big fan of FPS, and in my younger years I had absolutely loved super metroid, so I was unsure of how this would stand up to it. Now, I really, really wish I had given it a go long before. Not only does it stand up to super metroid, which is often revered among retro gamers as one of the best games of all time, but in my opinion, surpasses it.

I love the gameplay style, because it is not a true FPS. It is a first person adventure game. The point of the game is not to go around shooting anything and everything that takes your fancy, as with halo, but to find everything you need in order to restore the planet.

The storyline is that a large meteor, containing ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great, and true to the series
Somehow Metroid Prime managed to carry the classic gameplay from its 2d predecessors into 3d, while adding some new dynamics that fit smoothly with everything else. The morph ball's acceleration is a good addition, for use in half-pipes and for generating power. Yet again, the main character's sex remains a mystery unless you beat the game very quickly.
