Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Review: Kicking off at the back of the battle, World War II: Frontline Command is a challenging real-time strategy game that boasts some quite neat ideas.
Developed by the legendary Bitmap Brothers--who have classics such as Speedball and its sequel on their resume--the game initially comes across as a lesser clone of the excellent Command & Conquer series. Its interface is similar, controlling your troops follows a similar pattern and the viewpoint also bears similarities.
But it's the little touches here that make a difference. Dismissing the resource management side of things, the game focuses on tactics and action, giving you a set number of troops--frequently replenished by reinforcements--and a mission to complete. Yet avoiding a battle can often be as important as fighting one here, and that's why sneaking around and hiding away are both legitimate tactics. What makes this the more satisfying is well developed AI on behalf of the computer-controlled enemy, who have a realistic line of sight, and can be satisfyingly ambushed if you play things right.
On the action side, a little diversity is implemented through a secondary fire system, which equips the majority of your troops with a second means of attack, thus expanding your tactical options. Troops are also affected by what's going on around them, and are more likely to react well when their own morale is high.
Credit where credit's due, there are quite a few slightly different ideas at work here, and the game pulls together very well. At heart, it's another release that's similar to others in the genre, but the long-lasting gameplay and sheer enjoyment factor do make it a worthy purchase. It's not quite the classic Bitmap Brothers fare of old, but proof positive that they still know how to knock out a good game. --Simon Brew

At first this appears to be a very attractive game, the tank models are good and overall the graphics are apealing. First the positives:
The units are very well rendered and the guns all look impressive, certainly the Sherman and Tetrich tanks are appealing, as are the Panzer IV models. The infantry does look good, much better than Blitzkrieg or sudden strike models and the reload timer is a nice addition so you know how long your troops wil be before firing. The maps are a good size with generally pleasing detail and the paratrooper drops are the best in any RTS game around. The interface is pleasing with maps showing you where the action is taking place, for example the tutorials take place near Portsmouth and have the date of the ... Read More:

I cant type a balanced review on this game because it is just so bad. The Tank models do look great its just a shame they arent in a decent WWII game like sudden strike. The landscape is a joke, the missions are silly, the amount of troops you get per battle are beyond funny. This game is the most dullest, poorly made, painfully ugly WW2 game EVER! Avoid like the plague

Basically this looks like a very nice apealling and playable game. It is. However, and this is main problem. Once completed, (for instense game players this takes less than a day!) it is useless. Hardly anyone plays online (I got to play against 1 player for 10mins). And there is no single player skirmish mode. After 1 day I have now put this game up for re-sale on amazon. There really is no excuse for the BB's to release a game which has a 1 day lifecycle. Overall WASTE OF MONEY and despite enjoying the demo version and Z:Steel Soldiers (it has a skirmish mode!) I will NEVER buy a Bitmap Borthers game again.

Having now played this game I would find it hard to justify paying £5 for it let alone over £20.
The graphics for this game aren't particularly great, with the graphics on their highest setting the game is slow and pain rather than pleasure to play. With the graphics on their lowest setting the game is still slow and still a pain to play. And when the graphics are on their highest setting they're rubbish.
The game freezes for about 10 seconds at a time through out which makes for an annoying experience.

Graphics and speed problems aside the game is still rubbish, it's about as strategic as accidently walking into a lamp post, ... Read More:

Impossible to control. Impossible to recon the enemy. Very limited control and no intuitive movement from your troops.
This is not a good strategy game, look elsewhere.
