Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk Review: The original is widely regarded as the best 3-D platformer for the PS2 ever, so Jak II: Renegade is going to appeal to anyone that loved Jak and Daxter. Things aren't quite how they used to be though, for although the first game was a very Rare-esque happy cartoon adventure, this one is rather darker and more violent (and packs some surprisingly harsh language). As the game begins Jak is captured by the evil Baron Praxis and subjected to all sorts of torturous tests and experiments in the two years it takes for Daxter to find and rescue him--the happy-go-lucky adventurer from the first game has been replaced by a mean and moody fugitive out for revenge. As well as taking a rather unhealthy interest in various high-powered weaponry, Jak's two years of incarceration have also left him with the ability to transform, Hulk-like, into the extra-surly Dark Jak, which apart from pumping him up to Arnie-style muscle levels also allows him to use Dark Eco magic. Also new for this sequel is the fact that Jak has his own hoverboard, which he carries around wherever he goes and can be used at any time. And if even that seems like too much bother, nearly all the other vehicles in the game can be commandeered and used if you need a bit more speed or extra firepower.  Rating:  - PoorI thought Jak 2 was a poor game. I didn't enjoy any of the things I read as highlighted in other reviews I'm afraid. The camera is sticky, it doesn't pan or move anywhere near as wel as other games I've played and it's so temprimental about things blocking its movement that I couldn't see where to go at some points - going into 3rd person view was the only way to unjam it. It doesn't pan low or high enough. Have the time I couldn't tell if I was by a rock or a gaping hole. The characterisation is poor - Daxter is definately not hilarious. It's a good idea poorly executed. Getting a game character to say slightly rude words and bounce around in a not-quite slapstick way doesn't do it for me. I like ... Read More: Rating:  - jak II:renegade"WELCOME TO NEARLY THE BEST PLATFORMER ON PS2" I had to rate jak 3 before this because it was better,but it dosen't stop this from being one of the best platformers on PS2.What I enjoyed most was unlocking unlimited dark jak so that I could go round as a giant(which you can earn later on in the game if you get enough metal head skull gems)and killing those pathetic krimzon guards who can't do their job properly!!!! the missons are outmoded and very frustrating.you'll need patience for this or you'll lose it....just like I nearly did. Daxter hasn't changed with his hilarious comments.Maybe not as friendly but a really fantastic game!!!Not as good as jak3 but utterly remarkable.Its a huge city too so expect many challenges. ... Read More: Rating: - What a game......This is gonna be (quite) short coz I only have a few things to say about this game. 1) FANTASTIC! The whole look of the game is great from the characters to the setting. The storyline's cool too even though I havent played the first Jak & Daxter. 2) I love the cutscenes (especially Dax's humour) all the voices fit the characters perfectly. And 3) the only bad thing about this game is: the difficulty. Sometimes you can get right to the end of a really hard level (and theres a few of them), miss a platform or something and die. Rating: - Jak is back!I was a great fan of Jak and Daxter the precursor legacy and when i heard about Jak 2 i was really excited!In Haven city Jak can do many things. He can drive hover cars but be careful of the krimzon guards. Jak also has a new dark side, DARK JAK! He can use many different abilities such as DARK BOMB and DARK BLAST! Jak 2 renegade is one of the best games i've played. I bet you will agree! |
