Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Review: Just as the new film is a great improvement on the already solid original, so too is Spider-Man 2: The Movie (the game) a significant improvement on previous video game simulations of New York's friendly neighbourhood web-slinger.
As you'd expect, the new game works along the same basic lines as the last one but is actually a very noble attempt to completely expand the concept and the way it's implemented. The biggest change is the that the game is now much more free-form, rather than being strictly mission based, and you can swing around New York City all you like, getting involved in side quests (such as stopping minor robberies) before getting around to the wider plot.
The actual business of web-slinging has been greatly improved so that your webbing now actually connects with buildings, instead of just attaching to thin air, and so the whole business of getting around the city becomes more "realistic". The combat system has also been completely overhauled, although it's still fair to say that the interior levels are far less entertaining than bouncing around New York and getting involved in aerial scraps.
The game realises this though and the majority of the action now takes place outside as you not only follow the plot of the movie, taking on main bad guy Dr Octopus, but also tackling some of Spidey's other villains from the comic books, including the Vulture, Rhino and Shocker--as well as meeting alternative love interest Black Cat. Hopefully someday all comic book games will be this good.--David Jenkins

When somebody bought me Spider-Man 2: The Movie game, I must admit that I was thinking "Here we go... another over the top and childish superhero game." Now I can admit that I was wrong.
The first thing that I loved was the liberty. As Spiderman, you can go anywhere in New York City. The whole island, along with Brooklyn (and if your lucky Liberty Island) is interactive. Unlike the first of the Spidey games, you can go both on the ground and in the air- onto any rooftop and down every alley. The feeling of just being able to swing high above the pedestrians shouting you praise (or sometimes abuse!) is so rewarding that sometimes you can forget your missions all together and just swing and plummet for the sake of it.

Explore manhatten like never before with spiderman 2. This game has taken a new approach for to super hero gaming, and they could't have got it more right! Spiderman 2 conbindes an exelent story line with fun free-roaming, you can totally ignore the missions an explore manhatten from the air! You can never get bored of this game, there are hundreds of secreats to be found! on the down side i dont think there are enough indoor missions, and altough there are shops and bars you can now enter when you like, the people inside tend to be just standing there doing nothing. As a whole the fight sequences and web swinging have greatly inmproved, with upgrades available on the game. i promise you will never tier from swinging around new york, leaping from ... Read More:
