As a big fan of CM04 i couldn't wait to get my hands on this but, and initailly i was very impressed with attention to detail, great graphics, loads of cars, more tracks and Career mode. But as time went buy i have found really niggly faults:
1: Biggest tell tale sign it doesn't take much skill to drive is that i was still just as quick after several pints of beer!!
2: I don't know if this is because the control of the cars is better or they have made it easier but either way it is easier than CM04 ( try the long straight australian track in a group b at 120mph on 04 then compare to 05)
3: Very annoying if you cut some corners( i dont mean big cuts, i'm talking putting a bumper over the verge) then it says your ... Read More:

If you like the Colin Mcrae games and have played them before this one is the best of them all. There is over 70 tracks all over the world to race such as england, Japan, spain and so on. This game has supurb graphics especially on the cars and you can smash your cars basically until the car is hunk of junk. A must buy game if your into rally and love racing games.

I have not played any other version of this game, so don't know if it is any different to the 2004 title.
I do think that this is a tremendous racing game. The car models are fantastic and they feel like they should in real life (I think!). The learning curve is quite steep initially, but after a rew hours you'll be power sliding when you mean too!
A nice, if somewhat pointless, touch is that the leaves fall off trees if you hit them - a further example of the amazing graphics in this game. The feeling of speed is nicely realised too and you get a real sense of achievement when you obtain your first podium finish.
Elsewhere, all is as it should be: there is loads to unlock, lots of tracks and competitions and enough ... Read More:

Firstly, I should point out that I am new to Xbox and have not played any other version of the Colin McRae games and so I cannot comment on how it fares next to those. The first thing that strikes you is the in game graphics. The car models are superbly detailed, especially as you damage it (and you will). If you hit a tree, the leaves fall off! pointless, but very nice all the same. The handling is superb but takes a while to get used to. Expect to crash lots on your first few goes, and unless you are a gaming god, forget a podium finish for a while. That said, when you do get it right, the sense of achievement is huge and the speeds you get up to are frightening! A negative point is that if you go off road, sometimes you are flashed ... When I bought Colin McCrae '04, I thought this was the best rally game ever produced. Naturally, I eagerly waited the release of '05.
Upon playing the new version, wow, what a huge disappointment. Sure the graphics have improved and you can now play on-line (which wasn't available on the '04 version), but what the hell has happened to the realism??? It's gone. There is absolutely no sense of feeling that you are actually racing.
If you own Colin McRae '04 then stick with that version as you will be hugely disappointed with '05.
