 Rating:  - Poor QualityPicture quality was good however after 13 months (just outside the waranty) the lens would not retract. This it seems is a common fault and not worth repairing. Canon also refusing to repair faults like this within waranty and argue dust has caused it. There is a group in the US planning to take legal action against Canon on ther grounds of poor quality. I suggest you buy a different camera . Rating:  - Beware - this camera is susceptible to sand/dustWe've had our Ixus 55 for about 18 months now. It went wrong after about 6 months - admittedly our fault for taking it to the beach, but it's not like we dropped it in the sand or anything. We got an "E18" fault (the camera stops working and just displays the code E18 on the LCD screen) and we sent it off for repair. They found sand in the lens and we paid about £100 to get it fixed (not covered by the terms of the warranty). Lo and behold, after another 6 months we got the same fault again - this time the zoom is stuck so we can't close the lens, and it looks all wonky. This time around we hadn't taken it to the beach, so I assume it must be dust or grit. We're going to give up on it now, which is an annoying waste of a couple of hundred ... It always takes a great picture and even the videos are fantastic. Due to its compact size characteristic of the canon Ixus range, I take this camera around with me everywhere. It has had its fair share of knocks, none of which caused any damage, and so I was disappointed to find other people have had problems. If reviews about problems with errors puts you off this camera, dont let them put you off the canon ixus range altogether. Since I got this camera, every member of my family has purchased a canon ixus camera, and none of us have had any problems. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is simply the slight annoyance that it does not ... Read More: Rating:  - Best compact camera I have ownedThis has been a great camera; I bought it for our honeymoon in September 2005 and it hasn't let us down since. I have taken more photos in the past year than in the whole of my life before!! This is largely down to the size of the camera as it now goes everywhere with me. This coupled with good build quality and enough manual control for most users makes it a real winner. Battery life is good although you will want to get a spare. I had two cheap no name versions which lasted well for a year but now don't hold their charge. Not a false economy as they were so much cheaper than the Canon original. My spare is now a named 3rd party battery (energizer) which seems to be lasting at least as well as the original if not more. Downsides ... Read More: Rating:  - Good camera but treat it carefully!Really happy with this camera (very small, versatile, etc.) until I too got the dreaded shutter fault and it cost me £80 to get it fixed! Now I have bought a camera case and will very careful using this in any dusty/sandy environment in the future! |
