Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Preview: There will probably never be a definitive World War II action game, for the simple fact that so many new ones are released each year. Call of Duty 2: Big Red One should certainly be the last word on the current console formats though--which means something at least.
Rather confusingly this has nothing to do with the subtitle-less Call of Duty 2 on PC and Xbox 360. Whereas that game has the usual mix of three different nationalities of soldier to control, Big Red One has you playing the same soldier throughout the whole game. You do get to do quite a bit of sight seeing though with missions in North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany.
The Big Red One of the title is the nickname of a famous American infantry division and by sticking with them throughout the whole game you do get a much better sense of camaraderie than previous Call of Duty games. Unfortunately it also means that the game seems perilously close to the already excellent Brothers in Arms, except without the strategy bits.
No war game ever seems to do its action quite like Call of Duty though and the set pieces here tread that difficult line between cinematic bombast and harrowing realism perfectly. Big Red One won’t have the same impact on the gaming world as the first Call of Duty games, but it nevertheless looks like having a very good chance of being a better game. --Harrison Dent

this game is an absolute master piece , it has all the levels from the history of world war 2 (i think) and is'nt to hard, it is fairly easy to complete and doesnt take very long to do so. also once completed there isnt anything else to do apart from all the levels again and again on different difficulties , but that aside this game is phonominal.. i haveboth call of duty: finest hour AND big red one and theyre both great. on big red one the graphics are great with lots going on on the screen at once. the missions are challeging and are varied which keeps your interested.
overall its a great game but the only thing id change would be the ability to heal your comrades which was available in finest hour.

Having recently bought and played through all the Call of Duty games for PS2, I would rank Call of Duty 2 a very close second to Call of Duty 3. Now that Call of Duty 3 is all the rage, this game has somewhat fallen into the shadow. However, I feel that it is almost as good as CoD 3.
The gameplay and graphics may not be quite as good, but the way you get to know your sqaud and the good campaign makes up for this. Despite the fact that it is quite short, you can come back to the campaign again and again.
Overall, great fun!

I bought this game 2 weeks ago, and since i put the game in my console i couldnt turn it off it was full of missions and good gameplay and intresting charactors on your big red one team.
The graphics are pretty good much better then call of duty finest hour. This game has brillant levels and different places you travel lsuch as france, Italy and even the heart of germany.
The omah beach level is fantastic has plenty of action in it.
The ai in other soldiers are a bit dumb though and the way the game ends is disapointing.
But apart from that call of duty 2 : big red one is a brillant game plenty of action a definate for all the ww2 gamers out there.
