 Rating:  - Palm T/X: daily workhorseThe T/X is a great piece of kit despite it's release being a few years ago. For all its venerable age, Palm OS remains one of the most intuitive and easiest mobile OSes to use, not to mention being capable of serious work as well as fun stuff such as playing music or watching movies. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth deliver good connectivity. In a world of smartphones and feature phones with small square screens, the 320x480 display rocks. Compared to a mobile or even smart phone, there's acres of screen real estate. This is great for doing fun stuff like watching movies or surfing the web, and makes it possible to do more than just read a Word document or spreadsheet (I use mine to work on the daily commute). The previous three have all been excellent and I have always upgraded to take advantage of greater amounts of RAM and better displays. Unfortunately the TX has proved to be a major disappointment. The supplied email software caused so many reboots that I gave up and purchased a copy of Snapper which proved to be much more reliable. The TX still reboots regularly though. After 10 months the digitiser started misbehaving at the lower left part of the screen. I sent the TX to Palm for repairs and when I got it back the loudspeaker was no longer working. I sent it off again and when I got it back everything appeared to be OK, but a few months further on and the digitiser is playing up again. I shall ... Well I have had for about a week,and its working well.I must say when I first had it it proved a little hard to use,but with a little time and effort and following the instructions it is pretty good,and am getting more and more out of it. Read More: Rating: - Palm TX build faultsBefore deciding to purchase a Palm TX, you would be well advised to type "Palm TX digitizer problem" into Google. You will discover a very common build quality problem with this device. The problem is that at some time between 2 months and 10 months of use, the touchscreen will fail. Attempts to carry out a soft reset of the device results in an endless loop with the touchscreen program, which can only be exited by pressing the "home" button. A hard reset results in the same endless loop, but this time it cannot be escaped from. Several commentators on the web advise that in addition to the known digitizer problem, there are also software issues which cause this endless loop. This is a great shame, because the predecessor to this device, the Palm T5 is an ... Read More: Rating: - Very disappointedI have had this product for just under a year, and it has developed two faults: 1) The power on/off button has stopped working, and 2) An area of the 'touch' screen no longer responds to touch. Palm are currently refusing to accept my Amazon invoice as proof of purchase (despite it having my credit card/payment details on it!), and with the warranty running out on 19th April I am unlikely to get these faults resolved. Palm have currently quoted me £120 JUST to fix the power on/off button! This is the second Palm TX I have had - the first one just stopped working completely soon after I purchased it, but Amazon were brilliant and replaced it on that occasion (thanks Amazon!).
