Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review::
In a nutshell:
Splinter Cell returns with an all-new story of double-dealing terrorists and uncomfortable moral decisions. Its greatest new feature though is its multiplayer, which continues to expand into the definitive online stealth experience.

The lowdown:
You can only imagine that Sam Fisher must get a good pension, because he doesn’t seem to have an easy life. This time his role as a double agent in a terrorist group forces him to constantly make difficult moral choices, from big set piece decisions on whether to execute hostages to simple choices in-game such as whether to help out civilians. Although there are few significant changes to the controls this time around, for once most of the game doesn’t take place in the dark. Stealth is still paramount though, especially since two onscreen trust meters track whether you’re still in favour with both the terrorists and the NSA. The terrorist base also acts as a sort of hub world which you keep returning to between missions and slowly explore and unlock as the game’s story unfurls.

Most exciting moment:
The expanded Spies vs. Mercenaries multiplayer game now has even less connection to the single player campaign, with the spies using only hand-to-hand combat and moving much faster than Sam Fisher. It now supports a total of six players at once and is one of the few online action games to offer a genuine alternative to the normal first person deathmatches.

Since you ask:
The next Splinter Cell game is subtitled Conviction and is due out some time next year. Controversially it has been announced as an Xbox 360 and PC exclusive only, with no PlayStation 3 or Wii versions currently scheduled.

The bottom line:
The best Splinter Cell yet, particularly in multiplayer mode.-HARRISON DENT

Manufacturer's Description:
The best-selling Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell saga takes on an entirely new direction. In the highly anticipated sequel to the 2005 game of the year, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent, play as a double agent spy for the first time ever. Take on dual roles of covert operative and ruthless terrorist, where your choices of whom to betray and whom to protect actually affect the outcome of your game.

Experience the relentless tension and gut-wrenching dilemmas of life as a double agent. Lie. Kill. Sabotage. Betray. All to protect the innocent.

How far will you go to gain the enemy's trust? As covert operative Sam Fisher, you must infiltrate a vicious terrorist group and destroy it from within. You'll need to carefully weigh the consequences of your actions. Kill too many terrorists and you'll blow your cover. Hesitate and millions will die. Do whatever it takes to complete your mission, but get out alive.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Splinter Cell Double Agent on Xbox
A present when it first came out of Xbox and I was blown away. On par with Chaso Theory and a fantastic story. Fantastic Control, excellent graphics, phenomenal gameplay, easy 10/5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best of both Worlds

I have previously played the xbox 360 version of this game, and was not particularly impressed with the story or level design. There was some pretty good action scenes, but it left me cold. Recently i decided to trade it in and get the original xbox version. God, i wish i'd done it before! It is 10X BETTER than the 360 version! Much improved story telling, level design and atmosphere. Forget the 360 version if u are thinking of buying that. This is by far the definitive version of Double Agent. And it works on the 360, too!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - this game has different content to the 360 version
If you played the 360 version but did not like the changes they made, get this one instead as the content is entirely different

the annyoing JBA and daytime missions are not in here, instead is more of the nighttime stuff that was in Chaos Theory

The story is also better told; and it works on the 360, so I'd say this was the better version [although the graphics aren't as good, obviously]

--plus, you get 12 co-op missions which you can play split screen which aren't on the 360 version

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Way too short
Double Agent delivers everything we've come to expect from the Splinter Cell series, and more. Both graphics and sound are brilliant - the best yet. Gameplay is awesome and the control system is a master class in simplicity. The one thing that seriously lets the game down though is the fact that it's ridiculously short. On normal mode I completed it pretty much over a weekend. Like the stunning Black earlier this year, I think longevity has been sacrificed for looks. This is probably due to the size limitations of the Xbox, but it's still annoying. Double Agent has made me realise that it's time to cough up for an Xbox 360...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Keeping to the shadows
The game play is good. the story line seems quite good too and the graphics are uop to the usual standard in the X-box. All round a good game and worth buying
