I bought this camera 18 months ago, used it with varying success (the camera doesn't deal with light sources consistently, it occasionally takes a good photo but it's a question of luck). This week it developed a fault whereby the aperture clicks open and shut automatically as if trying to determine the light source, and any subsequent photo is a blank white screen. I contacted Canon support, and because the camera is now six months out of warranty it will cost upwards of 80 pounds to get fixed. I'm certainly not buying any Canon products again.

"Is that a Canon in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?" is not something an owner of a Canon Ixus 60 is ever likely to hear due to this beauty's sleek, diminutive dimensions.
I bought the IXUS 60 while on holiday in Australia in November 2006 because my Nikon D80 SLR was just too big (and precious) to take out partying in the evenings. I was wary of small digital cameras because I'd had two Nikon digital compacts and both had died on me within months (seemingly minutes) so buying this Canon was for me a gamble. I needn't have worried.
This camera has proven to be a most faithful companion; it has never let me down (not once has it 'acted up'/crashed/refused to work), has found many admirers, takes great ... Read More:

This bit of kit is fantastic, end of story.
I keep reading reviews about the battery life of this camera and don't understand why some folk complain about the battery. Example, I was in Adelaide recently, and forgot my battery charger.Being fully charged beforehand though, the battery lasted for four whole days shooting, using the LCD display all the time. On day five, the battery warning popped up, but despite this I was able to take pics for the remainder of that day. So, in short, five days of photography on a full charge.
I suggest that those having problems with battery life should buy a new battery, because obviously a decent battery can last days and days.
I don't think the camera is the issue.

I absolutely cannot fault this little marvel. The battery life is fantastic. Its hardly bigger than a mobile phone, The screen is big and bright. The pictures I get from it even in low light rival those from my Nikon SLR. I have had mine just under the year now and I use it nearly every day. I am going on a trip to Africa soon and I really may decide to leave the SLR at home and take my Ixus 60 instead as my only camera. I have two batteries - one only a pattern battery - but they both give me fantastic life - I hardly ever need to charge them. The flash is really good too and calculates the light levels really well.

The battery life is poor, not sure of it's a fault on my camera specifically, as I have worked out switching it off and on again works - the red flashing symbol stops and I can continue using as normal. But this isn't right.
I've had mine just over a year and there were only good reviews at that point and now reading the most recent reviews I have to agree in that I would not recommend this camera.
On first usage, initially I thought it was a fault as it started flashing red to warn me of a flat battery and it then told my to change the battery pack - I was shocked - I'd only used it a couple of times! I eventually realised if I turned it off and on again it would work - but it slowly became a pain and had a lot ... Read More:
