No need to be an IT expert. Sliding rails for your HDD make life easy when it comes to installing your own hard disk drive. No need to fiddle with reconnecting audio / video cables to the TV or Hi-Fi when you take your TViX for a walk. This optional breakout box holds all your AV connections and connects to the TViX through the Multi IO port. You can choose whether you use TViX as player or external storage while connecting to TV and PC together.

I bought the 160Gb version and after many hours of frustration with skipping mp3 tracks the conclusion was that although mp3 files playback fine on a computer the 3100 cannot cope if album art has been downloaded when ripping tracks. The playback of mp3s falters at regular intervals. Remove all the picture art and playback of mp3's is great. Unfortunately, this is a time consuming process and needs some technical knowledge. I received no useful support. Visiting various forums confirmed that this is no isolated case. After sending it to the retailer for testing at my expense and later pointing out the solution I found that the M3100U has been discontinued. If considering TViX,I'd recommend a different model.

If you want a cheap box that you can carry your movies/music around on to share with friends and family then this is a cheap way of doing it - don't expect great picture quality - the 720p/1080i upscaling is poor - 1080i chugs and has a one line pixel wobble - 720p chugs less but is ok - standard def works fine.

What is useful however is that the unit down mixes 5.1 audio to analog stereo so useful for playing in places with limited equipment. It plays most vob's but some it refuses to play without much information on why.

The onscreen interface is very simply but works fine - software in general is buggy with quite a few lockups occurring.
