Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - What EQ2 should have been
After playing EQ1 I thought EQ2 would be just as good but it wasnt, for me the instancing spoiled the realism. This game has so much potential and even though the player community has dwindled (it is picking up) you can still enjoy solo. Definately worth a look especially considering the new low price here. There are still bugs and it does require a good spec machine to run to full potential I have run on a buisness laptop with graphics/sound turned down but not advisable. Downside, as i normally play a cleric, I dont get to sit around as much these days as the clerics here need to fight aswell.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - It is good and is / will get better.
Vanguard is a very good game if you like deep, meaningful MMORPG's
It has a complex crafting system , good adventure system and something called Diplomacy ( sort of in game mini game that actually progresses the game's lore)
Its a little like Everquest 2 but with better character models and no zoning (game loading in between going from one zone to another zone)

For me personally - this game was the only other game (since World or Warcraft) to make you feel like your in game character was something special and each character class seems pretty unique (like World of Warcraft).

Currently the game is in a bit of a transition - but I think it should all be for the better.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not the best choice
Decent graphics, but very static animations. I hear it can get a little heavy on the machine, but no problems on my system (x2 5600+, 2 gb ram, GF 8600). Still, the spells and sword swings feel very basic and unimpressive, not eyecatching at all. Gameplay is heavy and awkward, you feel like your toon's boots are filled with bricks... plus it's like walking in a ghost world, almost no other players around. Very disappointing, really, for a game with a monthly fee. There are good qualities, like how large the world is, and all the patches coming out, but...

I picked this after getting tired of the new WoW dev team (Kalgan) and some of the absurd changes done in the Burning Crusade. The Sony label attracted my attention. Plus, the reviewers ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Massive MMORPG
Watched a friend play and was impressed, apparently was very buggy on release, but has been vastly improved with new animations and quest fixes.
Ugraded my PC to 2 gig RAM on reccomendation and seems to run fine for me.Gotta say am loving it.The game world is something else, swaying trees and grass, and you can see for miles. I can see why it takes a fair bit of PC muscle. Loads of characters to choose from and very in depth.Excellent

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - This has got a lot better since release
Below was my original review. Since then it has pulled me away from EQ2 and I find myself playing this more and more. The updates have made a great difference to the game play and the Graphics are fantastic. Buy it, play it, you will not be disapointed. If I could change the Star rating I would to a 5 on both!!

"This game is not meant to be a EQ1 or EQ2 replacement. It's a different game altogether. It's interface is closer to WoW than any other MMO that I've played. The graphics are very good and the 3D engine used is a little buggy at the moment, but that will be sorted with time. You will need some good hardware to run this though. The quests and game play remind me more of WoW, but the crafting and this new diplomacy thing is a little ... Read More:
