Editorial Review:
Product Description: The Primary kit is designed to teach children the basic principles of electrics and electronics in a fun way. The Primary kit is suitable for use in the classroom or the home. It covers the requirements of the Science National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 & 2 with links to Design and Technology and adds many extra exciting experiments for good measure! How do the parts fit together? All the parts fit together with press-studs on a baseboard. Very little skill is required to assemble the components so making the kit suitable for all abilities. What instructions are provided? The manual contains all the National Curriculum worksheets covering Key Stage 1 and 2 Science at levels 2F, 4F and 6G, complete with teacher/parent notes, it also shows all the circuits that can be built with the kit

My 5 year old was given this as a present and he loves it. He very quickly worked out that you need to have a complete circuit and he happily makes different circuits to do different things. With a bit of explanation he understands what is going on so can trouble shoot on his own. It is so easy to pop together that there is no reason why younger children cannot benefit - particularly with a bit of adult help.

My son who is 8 loves this toy. He spends hours experimenting with different circuits. His brother who is 5 also enjoys connecting the pieces togerther and trying to make the lights or sirens work. I don't think they can understand the principles of connecting circuits in series or parallel but it doesn't seem to matter

Very impressed with this kit, in fact our 8 year old has professed it his favourite birthday present. The pieces are all very clearly labelled & laid out in the box, so you can tell very easily what is what. There's a good variety of components for lots of different layouts. The booklet contains a large number of experiments and has tests & exercises for teaching kids how & why their circuits work. Or you can just stick the pieces together & see what happens! All the components seem pretty hard wearing as well, so you should get a fair bit of life out of it.
One slight quibble I would have is that it was somewhat longer in arriving than I would have hoped for, especially as it does not fall under Amazon's free postage delivery ... Read More:

We received the Primary Kit with some other Cambridge BrainBox Kits as a Present.
This company seem to have two different size Kits for the 8 to 13 age level.
They charge £14.99 for the Primary Kit which includes 100 experiments
whereas the £29.99 Primary Plus Kit includes 500 experiments.
Anyway on to the Primary Kit which cost us £14.99 - it came in a large box with enough parts to construct over 100 experiments.
The parts were brightly coloured and number coded - which really did help us in the construction - and the bits seemed to be strong.
We have tried 2 of the kits now and my kids think that they are playing a game and having fun,
but at the same time they have been learning ... Read More:

My son got this from his grandmother last birthday (age 6) and has played and played with it. It comes with an easy to follow set of plans for instant gratification...loud noises, dramatic flight of a spinning disc and lights flashing but has spent hours creating his own circuits. Well worth the money and far better value than some available at 2 and 3 times the price. Definately recommended for little boys with active minds!
