Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk Review: There’s a steady pattern forming to seasons of Lost, where the narrative by turns manages to enthral and frustrate with equal measure. And the show’s makers are clearly wise to this, as while elements of the third season revert to type, there’s a clear and genuine effort to energise a programme that continues to stretch its simple premise as far as it can. So while Lost still compromises of a group of plane crash survivors marooned on a mysterious island, there’s plenty else being thrown into the pot. Season three finds new characters, greater exposition of the mysterious ‘others’, the obligatory background character work, and a pronounced fracturing of relations between many of the survivors. It too also manages to hint at some answers to the many conundrums that it continues to pose, not least a concluding episode that itself should keep fan debates fuelled until well into the next series. And, chief among its accomplishments, Lost still manages to keep us interested, and leaves plenty in the tank for the future as well. In short, there’s little danger you’ll be short-changed by Lost season three thanks to its ideas, its nerve, and the continued clues it teasingly leaves along the way.  Rating:  - Very annoyingThe first series of Lost was excellent. It had a good basic idea, some interesting characters and some good plotlines (although some silly ones). Season 2 was a pleasant surprise, and was much better than I expected. Season 3 fulfilled all of my expectations, and was horrible. I knew this was going to happen because of Alias. Alias was another great idea which ran on for far too long, and both series give me exactly the same impression. I imagine the writers sitting in a room at the start of each episode, and saying to each other "OK, now how can we jerk the audience around totally in this episode?" Because that's all they do. They keep the suspense by constantly switching back and forth, making the good guys ... Read More: Rating:  - Back to good old-fashioned story-tellingAfter the dull, incoherent ramblings of Series 2, I did not expect much from the new offering. But I was wrong. Here the writers have taken a slightly different approach. While there is still an over-arching plot to get off the island, what we are presented with in most episodes are delightful, engrossing and delicious short-stories. The one with Hurley and the mini-bus is so good it can - and does - stand watching on its own as a perfect little gem of film making. This tighter focus on the hopes, fears and backgrounds of individual characters or small combinations thereof is inspired. The overall plot is advanced by degrees towards Series 4, but who cares? The writers have got back to telling good stories, not just trying to be deep and meaningful. Rating:  - Jacob loves you man...........The second series "lost it" a bit but Lost is back with a vengeance in Series 3. Terrific characters and a plot that even the most skilled clairvoyant couldnt guess make it impossible to stop watching even if (like me) you promised yourself only one episode each evening. I was sad to see some characters go (I won't tell you which ones....). The way how each character plays a role in getting the group towards their goal, and the way the backstory is teased out for each character is terrific. Lost is easily the best of the huge proliferation of big budget miniseries from the US, and I can't wait for Season 4. Read More: Rating:  - If you haven't started watching this series...DONT!Like everyone else that leaves a review I have watched this series (I finished season 4 last night), I wish to god I hadn't but like Magnus Magneson "I've started so I'll finish!" with no spoilers here's a quick outline of the plot Season 1 (24 episodes) There's a plane crash, survivors chill out on beach Season 2 (23 episdes) They chill out on the beach some more season 3 (22 episodes) yup.. still on the beach season 4 (13 episodes...due to writers strike) they're on the beach and yep.. yes something is happening.. yep i can sense it.. it's all about to get.. no no wait.. hang on.. no nothing happens! Can't wait for season 5! Rating: - Lost returns for its best season yetBarcode: 8717418129378 I have nothing but praise for this series of Lost. After Channel 4 lost the rights to Sky (which i don't have), I chose to wait till this box set came out rather than go on the internet for spoilers. In the time inbetween i forgot just how brilliant Lost could be at its best and when i sat down to watch this season - boy was i in for a treat! Series 3 is Lost with all the fat trimmed away. Now 3 years down the line, anything less than essential has been largely left behind, ensuring a series that is slick, well-paced and delivers consistently episode after episode.
