 Rating:  - PoorHaving enjoyed previous Need for Speed titles on the Gamecube I was excited to see how this title would fare on the Wii. However after a few hours of gameplay I can report that this nothing more than a warmed-up reissue of a popular franchaise. On the plus side the menu and career structure of the game is enough to keep players interested for a while, although the standard EA menu interface (which looks like it was lifted and rebranded from one of their NFL titles) operates a little clunkily. Using the career mode you can progress through the ranks, earning money to improve your cars. On the downside is practically everything else about the game. The graphics are poor - the frame rate is patchy and the colour and rendering looks ... I can see where the free roamers wouldn't like this, because there ain't no free roamin', but as a straight up racer it pretty much hits the mark but with one huge problem. Whilst the controls are responsive and the gameplay is fine, it is way too easy. I don't think I am that good at video driving games, but apart from drift mode, getting through to meet and beat the bosses (often even easier than the levels below) was no trouble at all. It appears that the AI is defective in this regard. For example you might be up against some car with a 200mph top speed but it is cruising along at 140 on a long straight as you zoom by them. ... Having only played NFS on PS machines, I was curious as to how it would work on the Wii. The controls seem to work ok but the gameplay in Pro Street is nowhere near as good as it's predecesors. Read More: Rating:  - Enjoyable and easy to get into.I bought this game with some trepidation as I was unsure how a driving game would work on the Wii, but my fears were mostly ungrounded. First let me get the negatives out of the way. The menu was initially confusing until I realised that the remote had to be held in the 'driving'orientation. Steering has no neutral zone so can be a bit twitchy, the ability to define the sensitivity or a neutral/dead zone would have been ideal. The definition of an alias seems mildy pointless as I always seemed to be called by the default game name on scoring tables. The career path is a tad confusing, could be laid out with better clarity. Read More: Rating:  - Great Racing GamePreviously played some racing games on the PC but unfortunately the computer crashed every 15 minutes. Decided to get a console and see how it performed. Have really enjoyed this game. Wii controls work well and the game play is good. The onscreen instructions are a bit over complex and the saves seem very limited (just 3 "careers" allowed). The graphics are well short of PC standard but this doesn't detract from the gameplay. Overall have enjoyed the game and it should keep me busy for quite some time. |
