 Rating:  - A brilliant beta version? Highly recommended, but not perfect yetWe live in South Asia and need to have accurate news from the UK and Switzerland. The BBC World Service is not so easy to receive these days, and you don't always want your laptop open and running at all hours. This radio is an amazing device, but it is far from perfected yet, and as early adopters we have several observations as to what could vastly improve the use of this radio. First of all, the range is pathetic inside a normally built house - the aerial is the wrong length, apparently, to pick up our Airport Express signal any more than 30 feet away, especially if there's a solid wall in between. There are three major problems with this device. 1) The battery life is very poor, I get three hours use on a good day and if left off the charge the radio will be flat in 3 days with no use. 2) You cant use itunes as a music server as the "bonjour" protocol is not supported 3) The range of the WiFi is very very poor. One solid wall or floor between the radio and you can forget it. I wonder if this is linked to the battery life in that the transmit side of the Wifi in the radio is running at full steam to hold the connection with the router. Damn shame, if it had of worked as described on the tin it would have been excellent. Rating:  - Significant reliability problems, but a good prduct if you can get one that works.I'll try to make this review balanced because I believe there are some pros and cons you should really weigh up before purchasing. I wanted to give the radio 2.5 stars! Cons; 1. Reliability I have now had 2 problematic Revo Picos; the 1st radio worked fine for 2 weeks then would not charge at all and then failed completely. Unbelievably, the 2nd radio I've received from Revo does not even power up after the recommended 12 hour charge (whether plugged into the mains or not). So, I think it's pretty clear that my major issue with this product is the reliability, or lack of. I'm going to give it a go with a 3rd radio, but if that doesn't work then I'll give up. There are over 10,000 stations now listed and this seems to still be increasing everyday. The sound quality seems pretty good and it has a headphone socket so I can plug it into my Hi-Fi too. The best bit is listening to 6Music in the bath with a bottle of Corona. Rating: - battery life terriblei like the radio but the reason i bought this was to allow me to use it with the battery only. i have so far only managed to get 3 hours max with the battery fully charged. over 3 days of 15 minutes each day the battery went flat so you cannot get this kind of times over a few days |
