 Rating:  - Real PoliticsThis game has both the feel of something fresh and the excitement of politics. Just watch your popularity drop like a stone when you raise taxation or implement harsh gun controls. This game has it all. Play as either conservative, labour or any of your choice and show no mercy...just lower that monetary deficit and be the best head of state that you can. Its good but does not deserve five stars as it is a game which gets old very quickly but does have the ability to drag you back to play when you are bored of the generic shoot 'em up. Well worth the political and economic expenditure. Rating:  - Limited Game-playThe game is great, but it has some major issues. For one thing, once you balance the books and pop a couple of populist policies on (free school-meals, agriculture subsidies etc ...) its far too easy. The way it shows the relationship between different policy changes and stats like unemployment, poverty etc ... is fantastic. But it has no real campaign element, if a basic campaign game could be brought together with this (and some options for when you get put into oposition, so the game doesnt just end) it would be a potential classic. There are hopeful signs with the sequel - you get to select a cabinet and policy changes are more properly weighted (for example, it takes more political capital to re-introduce the death penaulty than increase ... Read More: Rating: - Take over the worldOlder gamers may remember a great ZX Spectrum game in the 80s: "Great Britain Ltd" Democracy is the 1st game I've seen pick up that concept for the vista era. What I liked about the game was being able to be leader of many different countries - policies play out differently with the US electorate if you are president, and you will have to contend with policy obstruction if you lose either house in the midterms, and the differing start points of UK, Australian and US policies is good. The game is very addictive - each time I've played it I've found 4 hours has gone by very quickly. The interplay of policies affecting different interest groups and economic dynamics is great e.g. childcare provision plays ... Read More: |
