Having owned one for a few weeks now, I feel obliged to add my own thoughts on this wonderful bit of hardware. Having pondered for a while over which PMP to buy (the choice being between the A3 or Archos' 605wi-fi) I finally took the plunge and opted for the Cowon. I arrived at my decision based on two things, firstly the reliability of the A3 and secondly the fact that it will play just about any file without wasting my time and effort converting stuff that already plays on my PC.
What I actually got was a lot more! The screen is bright, colours are great and the picture clairty is just breathtaking.
It's simplicity personified when it comes to loading files, just plug in the USB lead and drag and drop to your hearts content, create ... Read More:

I bought the Creative Zen originally but gave it to my partner after she kept saying how nice it would be to watch movies wherever you wanted. It gave me the chance to investigate the A3. Whilst the Zen is a very good player (with a more panoramic, less reflective and slightly wider screen) it cannot compete with the Cowon A3 screen, which boasts 16 million colours and a much higher resolution. On the Zen, you tend to get dithering, particularly on blacks. The Cowon also copes with so many formats that I often don't need to bother re-encoding at all. Battery life is very good - on a par with the Zen (if not slightly better on video). Audio is excellent, although I am not sure yet if it is superior to the Zen, but this might be due to not getting ... Read More:

I got one of those as a Christmas gift and boy was I glad I got it!
Excellent in every way. Any format you can think of this machine can play, but the best part is that you do not need any software to transfer files. Using windows explorer you just drag and drop existing music or video files from your PC/Mac. Sound quality is excellent. The only negative I have noticed is that on divx movies the volume on some is low but I put it down to divx conversion settings, so audio normalizing when converting movies is advisable. Other than this, I can not find any faults in the last three weeks I have been using this player!
If you do not own a conversion software for audio or movies, iaudio comes with the basic version of 'jet audio'. For a small ... Read More:

Rocking in at almost double the price of the most expensive iPod, this most recent portable media player from Cowon would seem to have an almost impossible task if it is to win hearts, minds and customers away from Apple's all-conquering mp3 player. Its strength, however, comes from the fact that it deliberately avoids taking Apple on at a game they've got pretty much stitched up, and offers features and functionality that make the iPod look like nothing more than a beautifully presented toy for grownups.
Cowon have never been big in the UK market, but they are hugely popular in the US and Asia, and are widely regarded as manufacturers of very high quality products aimed at "serious" users. The a3 fits this model in every way, offering ... Read More:
