Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
The first lady of gaming returns in Tomb Raider - Underworld with her deepest and darkest adventure yet. Ostensibly searching for the mythical hammer of the Norse god Thor, the real draw of the game is exploring the underworlds of multiple different cultures.
A pair of panthers make an uncomfortable safety net
When you're a tomb raider, exploring ancient tombs is all in a day’s work
Lara’s pistols are no match for the kraken
The Mediterranean level includes a huge area for swimming

The basics of the game are classic Tomb Raider, as you explore the trap-filled interiors of ancient ruins using Lara’s famed acrobatic skills (and dual action pistols). From an underwater temple guarded by a giant octopus-like kraken to ancient Mayan structures in the South American jungle, she makes Indiana Jones look even older.

All of the levels are much larger than in previous games and far more interactive. You'll leave footprints in the sand and find all the scenery fully destructable. Every puzzle has multiple solutions, and the hand-to-hand combat system has been completely revamped. A new 3D map system also helps to ensure you never get lost so that you can concentrate on saving the world.

Key Features
  • Dream vacation: Travel the world in search of ancient artefacts, from the steaming-hot jungles of Mexico to the frozen Arctic, from the coast of Thailand to the depths of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Think like Lara: An interactive, non-linear game world means anything that it looks like you should be able to pick up and use (or destroy) you can.
  • Bettering Bond: An all new grappling hook, sonar map, scuba gear, a range of new weapons, and Lara’s trusty motorbike make her the best equipped adventurer in gaming.
  • Help on demand: Receive as much or as little help as you want, from gentle nudges in the right direction to a full explanation of what you need to do next.
  • Behind the scenes: All of Lara’s animations in the game have been fully motion captured from Olympic gymnast Heidi Moneymaker. Her voice is that of Spooks actress Keeley Hawes.
About the Developer: Crystal Dynamics
Based in the San Francisco bay area, the Crystal Dynamics team has been making games since 1992, including popular titles such as Pandemonium, Gex, and Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver. Crystal Dynamics began revammping the Tomb Raider series with Tomb Raider: Legend.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Return to Form for Lara Croft
I bought this game after downloading the demo on Xbox Live. The demo convinced me straight away that i would want to get this game.
But why? The Tomb Raider series seems to have gone from the dizzying heights of the original through the playstation one versions, until sinking to the depths of Angel of Darkness on PS2. To be honest, i never thought Lara Croft would recover from that horrific game, but with a couple of good games (Legend and Anniversary) produced by Crystal Dynamics, she seemed to be on the road to recovery.
This game is the first Tomb Raider to genuinely feel next-generation.
The motion capture of Lara Croft is very, very impressive. She moves like a real person - she trips, stumbles, jumps, falls and climbs ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Another atmospheric tomb-raiding escapade
I always look forward to a new Tomb Raiding expedition, and Underworld was no exception. Having purchased the game on it's first day of release, and playing through it in about a week of casual gaming, I found it to be an enjoyable yet frustrating experience!

The graphics and the music are outstanding. The attention to detail really raises the bar in terms of what gamers will come to expect from future games across all genres. The scenery is very photorealistic for the most part, and I especially like the way that Lara reacts to her surroundings, like flicking the greenery out of her face as she runs through it, and raising her arms to shield herself from the heat of fire.

However, lush audio and visuals alone do ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pretty good but could have been better.
I must admit I was a bit unsure about this game when I heard it was being released. I loved 'Anniversary' but not so much 'Legend'. This one falls in the middle for me. The graphics are a definite improvement. Lara looks great and the levels themselves are impressive in places.

My main gripe though is that there is not significant developement from the previous games. The extra moves, slightly improved combat are welcome but don't really distinguish it that much.

It is also quite short, you can complete some of the levels very quickly, which was also a problem with 'Legend'. I have played some excellent XBOX 360 games recently, which do the console justice, but this one feels distinctly average.

That being ... Read More:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best Tomb Raider Game!
I had the game 2 weeks before general release and I spent an entire weekend playing the game as much as I could. The game is incredibly addictive, the graphics are amazing, lara is so fluid in her movement and the level of detail is nothing ever seen in any of the previous games. Ignore the negative review as it is complete nonesense, Lara interacts brilliantly with the environments, brushing plants out of her way as she runs through the jungle. The bike part of Mexico is excellent. One of my favourite levels has to be Mexico. I do love The Mediterranean purely for how dark it is and how you really have to look around some environments. I cannot wait for the downloadable content to become available. This game is definitely worth buying. At the end ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - mixed feelings
I loved the origonal tomb raider but lost interest after the second one. they stopped focusing on ancient ruins and puzzles and instead placed in you in modern buildings constantly shooting people.

anniversary was amazing. huge game, back to the tombs, with only the odd bat to kill. simple controls and great story.

i had hoped this would be a next gen version of anniversary. but its not. back are the stupid human enemies. whenever there are people in this game it becomes almost unplayable. if you cant get the ai right dont put them in. it spoils the atmosphere anyway.

apart from that the game is good. it looks fantastic. probably the best looking game for the 360. with massive explorable areas and decent puzzles. ... Read More:
