Ignore the quibbles about missing classics or the relative lack of anything on here written and performed after 1976. As the sleeve notes clearly state treat this as a sampler and use it as an excuse to delve back into the originals. Th tracklisting may be familiar but played back to back you are left in doubt that here are some of the powerful songs of the twentieth century. The lyrics stand out in particular from Blowin in the Wind to Just Like a Woman and Hurricane - the story of boxer Reuben Carter wrongly accused of murder. Mr Tambourine Man and All Along the Watchtower were classics for the Byrds and Hendrix but the stripped down originals also stand the test of time.
