- His Dark yet Fantastic Materials
I would simply like to say fantastic work Mr Pullman one of the better books I have read this year. I have only recently finished the trilogy (reading the final book of the three in 14 hours cover to cover) and I encountered moments of tension, laughter and sadness throughout. simply one of those you can't put down. A great read for those of any age, a true masterpiece of fiction.

I am approaching the end of the third book and I just can't put it down! It is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Philip Pullman is a very skillful writer with a lot of imagination and I am glad I started reading the trilogy 'his Dark Materials'. I will be sad when I have finished reading 'The Amber Spyglass' as it is such a good book! so basically make sure you read those three books before you die!

I always laugh when I see the odd review (usually from USA) berating this trilogy. Basically this series is the best series written since LORD OF THE RINGS. They are amazing - and also fiction! As is the bible! There is no evidence to suggest otherwise!
Seriously buy these! They will take you on a magical journey and yes there are religous issues dealt with, but if you are open minded, and dont press your views on other people (a la review below me), and if you are an atheist (like myself and the author!) then enjoy!

i genuinely believe you cannot fail to enjoy this book. words beautifully written, plot intricately crafted, characters delicately painted. and the entire premise is perfectly executed.
i'm a cold old fish, but i was genuinely moved to tears at the ending.
thank you, mr pullman, for this trilogy.

Do buy the set, even if you're a film fan and think to read the lazy way. However good the films, and they promise good, too much will be stripped away. Now and then, literature aimed at young people bats a classic which storms into adult consciousness. This is the one for our time. It's a gift for everyone you know, a gift to yourself. There won't be another like it in a lifetime. Pullman is a fine writer, a great storyteller and genuine philosopher. Stand in Lyra's shoes, be young and see the world fresh. There is magic afoot here, and wonder for those still capable of it.
