Very funny. Made me chuckle out loud alot, which doesn't happen often for me. Quite clever written in first person.
Alot of womyn's books rely on escapism, fantasy, plots and characters (beauty without depth)that are unrealistic/impossible. but THIS book doesn't need escapism to be good. It is real and ultimately leaves you uplifted at the end of the book instead of being dumped by a fantasy.
You could easily meet these characters in real life and it is totally heartwarming.
It's about looking beyond the surface to what's inside. The main character is very aware of her flaws, then you realise that they are not flaws at all. She's intelligent with a heart of gold, witty and you can't help warming to her more and more.
Very insightful at times, with conversations that reveal much about the core decency of the speakers and could well remind you of people you know in your own work and social life.
