- Worst game ever? Close...
Don't be fooled into thinking this is a straight port of the (pretty good) PC version of Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now. This game is a complete rebuild, and it's been remade by... idiots.
EVERYTHING about this game is so beyond broken it's actually quite funny to play!
The handling is abysmal and the handbreak is a joke - it stops the car dead, meaning turning corners requires you to stop and start at almost every turn. Actually trying to complete a race is pointless! Crashing into and destroying the other cars is the only way to finish some of the races!
The graphics are terrible, never before have I seen so much fuzz on an N64 game, plus the frame-rate is very, very low. The zombies (well, they're supposed to be zombies but it's hard to tell) are just the icing on the cake, they don't move and when you hit them they just float apart in a bizarre mess of blocky polygons!
The sound is the worst I have heard on the N64, it would sound bad on a SNES. All the "music" is so loud in the game that it's completely distorted, making the terrible background tunes sound even worse than they already are. Plus all the speech is so muffled it's barely distinguishable.
But the two things that really make this game truly appalling are as follows...
1. The camera. - It just doesn't move at all. This may not sound that bad, but there's one level which is set on a mountain (the snow level) and it is UNPLAYABLE! When driving up the mountain all you can see is your car moving vertically in front of a mass of grey (the road) or white (snow) and you have no idea where you are or where you are going.
2. The gravity physics. - This is the worst part of the game by far. Hit a bump in the road and it's sends you into outer space. I'm not exaggerating! You'll spend 70% of your time playing this game in the air, and it will drive you mad! Especially as some of the tasks you need to do to complete this game require you to reach little box's in hard to reach areas... you can't do little jumps, only tear your hair out as you watch your car shoot off into orbit for the 50th time in a row - leaving the little box and your sanity back on earth.
How this game got past quality control I'll never know...

...The premise of the game sounds fantastic, race cars and run over zombies. but everything about the game itself is just so bad it's a joke. The graphics are terrible, the frame rate is dire, and the gameplay.... what gameplay. It's also very easy to finish (if you stick with it that long)

It could've been great but no this game is as fun as having your tonsils ripped out and getting fed sherbet while you still bleeding.....In fact that would be more fun

This is quite possibly the worst game in existence. It is not even deserving of one star. The graphics are appaling, although this could be forgivable if there was something resembling a game underneath the shoddy exteriour. The "music" amounts to little more than some badly played chords and synthsised bleeps. The other sound effects are even less impressive, with below par car noises and pathtic groans from the zombies that shamble around aimlessly in random spots. The driver AI is also abysmal, with the enemy cars often driving into walls with no way of reversing out of the corner. The level designs could be huge, but as everything looks exactly the same, it is hard to tell if you are in a new place, or if you are going over old ground. The physics of the game also leave much to be desired, with gentle bumps or knocking a wall resulting in your car being thrown miles into the air, amazingly earning you points for this unimpressive and embarring mistake. All in all, the worst game, not on the N64, not on all formats, in the world. Even if, like me, you see it for £..., dont but it. You will not be able to live with yourself.

Carmageddon is packed full of action. Including numerous tracks and cars not available on the PC Version. Also multiple games for head to head play. The graphics are poor for the N64 in comparison to the PC version but do not let the game down completely. This a recommended purchase to help relieve everyday stress by slaughtering every zombie in sight while you reek havoc and revenge round these great tracks.
